Operations Jobs in Fairfax: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a operations job in Fairfax?
The strongest path into operations in Fairfax is through its defense contracting and federal services sector, where program and logistics operations roles are consistently in demand. Targeting employers with federal contracts in Merrifield and Fair Lakes gives you the best shot. Candidates with clearances, project coordination experience, or supply chain backgrounds stand out in this market, and familiarity with government procurement cycles is a meaningful advantage.
Which companies hire operationss in Fairfax?
Fairfax operations roles are posted by Everforth ECS, George Mason University, and DICK'S Sporting Goods and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Fairfax draws a mix of large defense primes, healthcare systems, technology services firms, and regional logistics operators, all of which maintain ongoing operations headcount.
Are there remote operations jobs in Fairfax?
Yes, though it depends heavily on the role: desk-based and analytical operations positions are frequently remote or hybrid, while facility, logistics, and on-site coordination roles almost always require a physical presence. About 7% of operations openings tied to Fairfax are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting the area's concentration of policy, program, and technology-adjacent operations work. Process analyst and operations coordinator roles in federal IT and defense support skew most remote locally.
How can I get a operations job in Fairfax with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry point in Fairfax is an operations coordinator or administrative operations assistant role with a government contractor or healthcare organization. Employers like hospital systems in the area and mid-size defense firms regularly hire entry-level operations staff to support program teams. Internships through Northern Virginia's university partnerships and temp-to-hire positions in Fair Lakes office parks are practical starting points, and any exposure to scheduling, procurement, or vendor coordination makes a candidate considerably more competitive.
Which industries hire the most operationss in Fairfax?
Most operations openings in Fairfax sit in Education, Retail, and Staffing & Recruiting, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Fairfax's proximity to federal agencies and its dense cluster of government contractors, healthcare campuses, and technology services firms makes these sectors the primary drivers of local operations hiring.
