The most realistic entry path is applying to a formal new-graduate residency program, which major New York employers such as Northwell Health, NewYork-Presbyterian, and NYC Health + Hospitals run specifically for RNs without specialized pediatric experience. These structured programs rotate new nurses through pediatric units over several months. Nurses transitioning from adjacent roles like mother-baby, neonatal, or general med-surg also make strong candidates, and holding an active New York RN license with a current BLS certification gives any new applicant a clear edge.
