Position Overview:
The Planner is responsible for reviewing and coordinating a variety of planning and development applications, including variances, subdivisions, rezonings, site plans, conditional uses, and other land-use requests. This position provides an opportunity to work directly with clients, municipal and county staff, elected and appointed officials, consultants, and the public on a wide range of development projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Review zoning, variance, subdivision, rezoning, site-plan, conditional-use, and other land-use applications for regulatory compliance.
- Prepare staff reports, findings, recommendations, conditions, agendas, exhibits, and meeting materials.
- Research zoning, land-use history, ordinances, development regulations, and comprehensive plans.
- Review plats, site plans, surveys, and technical development documents.
- Coordinate reviews with municipal departments, engineers, surveyors, attorneys, developers, and consultants.
- Communicate with applicants and property owners regarding requirements, revisions, and approval processes.
- Present applications at Plan Commission, Board of Zoning Appeals, Council, and public meetings.
- Conduct site visits and assist with public hearings and planning projects.
- Support comprehensive planning, zoning updates, subdivision regulations, and development standards.
- Prepare GIS maps, exhibits, and graphics; maintain project files and track deadlines.
- Manage multiple projects and priorities while meeting deadlines.
- Perform other planning and related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- AICP certification, or willingness to obtain AICP certification.
- Strong research, writing, and communication skills.
- Ability to prepare staff reports, presentations, findings, and recommendations.
- Familiarity with GIS, mapping, and planning software.
- Ability to interpret ordinances, comprehensive plans, and land-use regulations.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
- Ability to communicate effectively with applicants, property owners, public officials, consultants, and the public.
- Experience attending or presenting at public meetings and hearings.
