Practice Manager Jobs in Virginia: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a practice manager in Virginia?
Most Virginia employers require a bachelor's degree in healthcare administration, business administration, or a related field, often combined with several years of clinical or administrative experience in a medical setting. Virginia does not mandate a state-issued license specifically for practice managers, but earning a credential like the Certified Medical Manager from the Professional Association of Health Care Office Management, or PAHCOM, strengthens candidacy significantly with Virginia employers.
Which companies hire practice managers in Virginia?
Employers hiring practice managers in Virginia right now include Sentara, Banfield Pet Hospital, and Atlantic Vision Partners, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Virginia's concentration of large integrated health systems and federally affiliated medical centers creates steady, year-round demand for experienced practice managers across the state.
Which Virginia cities have the most practice manager jobs?
Norfolk, Richmond, and McLean have the most practice manager openings in Virginia. Northern Virginia and the Richmond metro drive the largest share of listings, anchored by major health systems like Inova and VCU Health, while Virginia Beach and the Hampton Roads region generate consistent openings through Sentara Healthcare's extensive outpatient network.
Are there remote practice manager jobs in Virginia?
Yes, but they're uncommon. Practice management is primarily an on-site role, since it involves direct oversight of staff, patients, and daily clinic operations. About 13% of practice manager openings tied to Virginia are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, and those positions tend to involve revenue cycle management, billing oversight, or multi-site administrative coordination rather than hands-on floor supervision.
How can I get hired as a practice manager in Virginia with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is moving up from a medical office coordinator, patient services representative, or billing specialist role within a Virginia health system. Large employers like Inova Health System and Sentara Healthcare regularly post practice coordinator and administrative supervisor roles that serve as a direct pipeline into practice management. Completing a healthcare administration degree program through a Virginia institution and earning a PAHCOM membership certification gives candidates without direct management experience a measurable edge in applications.
Where can I find and apply to practice manager jobs in Virginia?
You can find and apply to practice manager jobs in Virginia on Migrate Mate, which lists current Virginia openings across health systems, specialty clinics, dental groups, and multi-site practices. Find roles that fit your background and apply directly to the employers posting them.
