Our busy, full-service veterinary hospital offers preventative care, diagnostics, dentistry, soft tissue and orthopedic surgery, emergency procedures, and more. We believe financial circumstances should not prevent pets from receiving the medical attention they deserve.
We are seeking an experienced, motivated, and hands-on Veterinary Hospital Manager who can lead our team, streamline operations, strengthen financial performance, and help us continue growing.
Position Overview
The Veterinary Hospital Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations, administrative functions, financial performance, and overall efficiency of our veterinary hospital.
The ideal candidate is a strong leader who thrives in a fast-paced veterinary environment, understands the business side of veterinary medicine, and knows how to build a positive, accountable, and productive team.
This is a hands-on leadership position. We are looking for someone who is comfortable managing the big picture while also stepping in to solve problems, support staff, and ensure exceptional patient and client experiences.
Key ResponsibilitiesHospital Operations & Management
- Oversee all daily hospital operations to ensure efficiency, organization, and exceptional patient care.
- Develop, implement, and enforce hospital policies, procedures, and standard operating protocols.
- Manage appointment scheduling, patient flow, and workflow efficiency.
- Identify operational challenges and implement effective solutions.
- Maintain compliance with veterinary regulations, workplace safety standards, and controlled substance procedures.
- Oversee medical supply inventory, purchasing, vendor relationships, and equipment maintenance.
- Work closely with veterinarians and medical leadership to support clinical operations.
Staff Leadership & Development
- Supervise, mentor, and support veterinary technicians, assistants, receptionists, and administrative personnel.
- Manage employee scheduling, staffing levels, attendance, and performance.
- Lead recruitment, onboarding, training, and employee development.
- Conduct performance evaluations and establish clear expectations for accountability.
- Foster a positive, respectful, team-oriented workplace culture.
- Address employee concerns and resolve workplace conflicts professionally.
- Promote teamwork and effective communication between medical and administrative departments.
Financial Management & Business Performance
- Monitor hospital revenue, expenses, payroll, and operating budgets.
- Analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) and identify opportunities to improve productivity and profitability.
- Implement cost-control strategies without compromising patient care.
- Oversee invoicing, payment collection, financial reporting, and billing accuracy.
- Evaluate inventory costs, purchasing practices, and vendor pricing.
- Collaborate with executive leadership on budgeting, financial forecasting, and long-term sustainability.
- Help balance our nonprofit mission of affordable veterinary care with responsible financial management.
Client Experience & Community Relations
- Ensure every client receives compassionate, professional, and timely service.
- Address client concerns and resolve complaints with empathy and professionalism.
- Improve client communication, retention, and overall satisfaction.
- Support community outreach programs and initiatives that expand access to affordable veterinary services.
- Represent the hospital professionally with clients, community partners, and vendors.
Technology & Process Improvement
- Oversee the effective use of veterinary practice management software.
- Improve scheduling, medical record workflows, reporting, and administrative processes.
- Identify opportunities to reduce manual tasks and increase operational efficiency.
- Assist with implementing new technology, software, and hospital systems.
- Track operational performance and provide regular updates to executive leadership.
Qualifications
Required:
- Minimum 2 years of management or supervisory experience in a veterinary hospital or veterinary practice.
- Strong understanding of veterinary hospital operations, terminology, and workflow.
- Demonstrated experience managing employees, schedules, and daily operations.
- Knowledge of budgeting, inventory management, and financial reporting.
- Experience with veterinary practice management software.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to multitask, prioritize, and remain calm in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to hold team members accountable while maintaining a supportive workplace culture.
Preferred:
- 5+ years of veterinary hospital management experience.
- Certified Veterinary Practice Manager (CVPM) designation.
- Experience managing a high-volume, multi-doctor veterinary hospital.
- Familiarity with Avimark or other veterinary practice management systems.
- Experience with financial forecasting, KPIs, and operational performance improvement.
- Experience in nonprofit veterinary medicine, shelter medicine, or affordable veterinary care.
- Bilingual English/Spanish skills are a plus.
