Principal Solutions Engineer Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a principal solutions engineer in Texas?
Most principal solutions engineers in Texas reach the role by building several years of experience in technical pre-sales, systems engineering, or solutions architecture before stepping into a principal-level position. Texas employers typically expect a bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, or engineering alongside hands-on product expertise. There is no state-issued license required for this role in Texas, but vendor certifications from AWS, Microsoft, or Cisco carry significant weight in the hiring process.
How much do principal solutions engineers make in Texas?
Principal solutions engineers in Texas earn a median of about $130,610 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $78,730 for the lowest 10% to over $201,850 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire principal solutions engineers in Texas?
Employers hiring principal solutions engineers in Texas right now include Bain & Company, CVS Health, and PepsiCo, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's concentration of technology headquarters, telecom infrastructure, and large enterprise accounts makes it one of the more active markets nationally for this role.
Which Texas cities have the most principal solutions engineer jobs?
Austin, Dallas, and Houston have the most principal solutions engineer openings in Texas. Austin's density of technology companies and SaaS vendors, Dallas's large enterprise IT and financial services firms, and Houston's energy and industrial technology sector each drive steady demand, making the distribution roughly follow where Texas's largest corporate headquarters and regional offices are concentrated.
Are there remote principal solutions engineer jobs in Texas?
Yes, and more than most technical roles. About 61% of principal solutions engineer openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting how much of the work involves virtual demos, stakeholder calls, and cloud-based collaboration rather than on-site presence. Pre-sales and architecture-focused positions tend to offer the most flexibility, while roles tied to specific enterprise accounts or data centers are more likely to require regular on-site time.
How can I get hired as a principal solutions engineer in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is moving into a solutions engineer or associate pre-sales engineer role first, then building toward principal over time. Large Texas-based employers like Dell Technologies and AT&T run structured associate and rotational programs in technical sales and systems engineering that accept candidates from adjacent roles such as technical support, systems administration, or software development. Earning a cloud certification from AWS or Microsoft and building a portfolio of architecture diagrams or proof-of-concept projects can meaningfully strengthen an application at that entry level.
