Responsibilities
- Develop 3D mechanical designs and assemblies using SolidWorks.
- Design plastic enclosures, housings, brackets, mounting systems, internal structures, and other mechanical components.
- Create mechanical designs around PCBs, batteries, displays, antennas, connectors, sensors, buttons, cables, and other electronic components.
- Convert product concepts, sketches, and requirements into practical mechanical designs.
- Create detailed 2D manufacturing drawings from 3D models.
- Design parts for 3D printing, CNC machining, sheet metal fabrication, and injection molding.
- Select appropriate materials, fasteners, inserts, seals, gaskets, and other mechanical hardware.
- Apply appropriate tolerances, fits, clearances, and basic GD&T where required.
- Design products with consideration for assembly, serviceability, durability, cost, and manufacturability.
- Build and evaluate prototypes and make design changes based on testing and feedback.
- Work closely with electrical and PCB engineers to ensure proper mechanical integration of electronics.
- Review prototype parts and identify dimensional, fit, assembly, or manufacturing issues.
- Work with prototype shops and manufacturing vendors to resolve mechanical design questions.
- Maintain organized SolidWorks models, assemblies, drawings, and design revisions.
- Support projects from early concept development through prototype and production.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering field.
- 1–3 years of mechanical design or product development experience.
- Strong working knowledge of SolidWorks, including parts, assemblies, and engineering drawings.
