Production Manager Jobs in Michigan: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a production manager in Michigan?
Most production managers in Michigan start with a bachelor's degree in manufacturing engineering, industrial technology, or operations management, then build floor-level experience before moving into management. Michigan does not require a state-issued license for production managers, but certifications from the Association for Operations Management or a Lean Six Sigma credential from an accredited program carry real weight with Michigan manufacturers. Many candidates also progress through supervisory roles at automotive suppliers or consumer goods plants before reaching manager level.
Which companies hire production managers in Michigan?
Employers hiring production managers in Michigan right now include Power Home Remodeling, Ford Motor Company, and Leprino, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Michigan's concentration of automotive OEMs, Tier 1 suppliers, and large food processing operations means production manager demand remains active across both metro Detroit and the west Michigan manufacturing corridor.
Which Michigan cities have the most production manager jobs?
Detroit, Grand Rapids, and Sterling Heights have the most production manager openings in Michigan. Detroit leads because it anchors the North American automotive industry, while Grand Rapids draws demand from furniture manufacturing, food processing, and a growing medical device sector, and Lansing benefits from General Motors assembly operations and a network of parts suppliers that surround the plants.
Are there remote production manager jobs in Michigan?
Yes, but they're rare. Production management is an inherently on-site role tied to plant floors, equipment, and direct team oversight, so most positions require a physical presence. About 25% of production manager openings tied to Michigan are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, and those tend to cover planning-heavy or multi-site coordination functions rather than day-to-day floor management.
How can I get hired as a production manager in Michigan with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is securing a production supervisor or team lead role at a Michigan manufacturer and building from there. Large automotive suppliers and consumer goods companies in the state, including operations in the Detroit metro and west Michigan, regularly bring on candidates through associate manufacturing programs or internal promotions from quality technician and shift coordinator positions. A Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or an APICS certification gives early-career candidates a concrete edge when competing against peers who only have floor hours.
Where can I find and apply to production manager jobs in Michigan?
You can find and apply to production manager jobs in Michigan on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers hiring across the state. Find the roles that fit your experience and location, then apply directly to the ones that match.
