We are seeking an experienced Production Team Supervisor to lead a production team at our Staunton, Virginia facility.
This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for approximately 10–15 production employees and 2–3 forklift operators. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in production leadership, inventory control, quality control, workflow management, and daily production planning.
Position Overview
Reporting to the Production Manager, the Production Team Supervisor is responsible for the day-to-day performance of an assigned production area.
This position coordinates employees, equipment, materials, and production priorities to ensure customer orders are completed safely, accurately, efficiently, and on time.
The supervisor is expected to maintain a strong presence on the production floor, monitor performance throughout the day, and make timely adjustments when staffing, inventory, equipment, or production priorities change.
Key Responsibilities:
Production Planning & Workflow
- Develop and execute daily production plans based on customer orders and priorities.
- Monitor production throughout the day to ensure work remains on schedule.
- Assign employees and equipment based on workload and operational needs.
- Adjust staffing and production priorities when conditions change.
- Identify bottlenecks, delays, and other issues affecting production flow.
- Coordinate with the Production Manager regarding production status, staffing needs, equipment issues, and order priorities.
- Ensure materials and labor are used effectively to support production goals.
Leadership & Team Management
- Provide day-to-day leadership for approximately 10–15 production employees and 2–3 forklift operators.
- Communicate production goals, expectations, and priorities clearly.
- Hold employees accountable for safety, quality, productivity, attendance, and workplace conduct.
- Coach and develop employees to improve performance and strengthen the team.
- Address employee concerns and workplace conflicts in a professional and timely manner.
- Recognize employee strengths and assign work accordingly.
- Maintain a professional, approachable, and solutions-focused leadership style.
Standards of Work
- Follow all established Standards of Work, SOPs, and production procedures.
- Ensure employees consistently follow approved work methods and procedures.
- Coach and retrain employees when work is not being completed according to established standards.
- Identify concerns with existing processes and communicate them to the Production Manager.
- Support process improvements while ensuring approved procedures remain in place until changes are authorized.
Inventory & Material Control
- Maintain awareness of raw materials, work-in-process, and finished goods inventory.
- Help ensure inventory records and production staging remain accurate and organized.
- Coordinate material movement with forklift operators.
- Ensure materials are available where and when they are needed.
- Identify shortages early and communicate potential production impacts.
- Verify finished products are staged and stored correctly.
Quality Control
- Ensure finished products meet company and customer quality requirements.
- Perform and oversee quality checks throughout the production process.
- Identify and correct quality issues before products move to the next stage.
- Coach employees on quality expectations and proper work methods.
- Monitor recurring quality concerns and assist with identifying the cause.
Safety
- Promote and enforce a safety-first work environment.
- Ensure employees follow company safety procedures and established work practices.
- Identify and address unsafe behaviors or conditions.
- Respond promptly to safety concerns and communicate significant issues to management.
- Help maintain a clean, organized, and safe production area.
Performance & Continuous Improvement
- Track daily and weekly production performance.
