Job Title: Senior Environmental Compliance Specialist
Job Summary:
Senior Environmental Compliance Specialist is responsible for leading advanced environmental technical work in support of complex projects within the EHS business unit. This role encompasses oversight and execution of environmental studies, field investigations, data interpretation, and high-level regulatory and technical support aligned with the department’s focus areas. The position plays a key role in managing a diverse portfolio of projects across air, water, and waste programs, while actively strengthening client relationships and contributing to the strategic growth of service offerings.
This position requires deep knowledge of applicable environmental regulations and industry best practices, along with the ability to exercise independent professional judgment on complex issues. The Senior Environmental Compliance Specialist is responsible for full lifecycle project management—from scoping and proposal development through execution and closeout—with a strong emphasis on leadership, client engagement, budget and schedule accountability, and delivery of high-quality results.
The role includes independently managing complex and high-profile projects, mentoring junior staff, supporting business development initiatives, and identifying cross-selling opportunities. Collaboration with subject matter experts, project directors, and operational leadership is essential to ensure successful project delivery and alignment with organizational goals.
The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 7–15+ years of professional environmental experience, demonstrating progressive responsibility and leadership in consulting or related fields. This position involves a combination of office-based technical work and field activities, typically approximately 70% office and 30% field or travel, depending on project and departmental needs.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage complex environmental compliance projects across air, water, and waste programs from scoping through closeout
- Serve as primary client contact, fostering strong relationships and ensuring high-quality service delivery
- Interpret and apply environmental regulations, providing strategic compliance guidance and solutions
- Oversee environmental assessments, field investigations, and data analysis, ensuring technical accuracy and defensibility
- Manage project budgets, schedules, and resources while maintaining accountability for deliverable quality (QA/QC)
- Mentor junior staff and collaborate with cross-functional teams, including subject matter experts and project leadership
- Support business development efforts, including proposal preparation, client presentations, and identification of growth opportunities
- Perform environmental fieldwork, inspections, monitoring, or sampling activities as required by assigned projects
- Maintain accurate project documentation, field logs, and records to support audits, regulatory reviews, or internal quality control
- Communicate with regulatory agencies or stakeholders as directed to support permitting, reporting, inspections, or project coordination
- Stay informed of relevant environmental regulations, guidance, and industry best practices applicable to assigned work
Pay Rate
$90,000-$115,000/annually
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in environmental science, Environmental Engineering, or a related field
- Clean Air Act (CAA) – Air permitting (Title V, NSR/PSD), emissions standards, MACT, NAAQS compliance
- Clean Water Act (CWA) – NPDES permitting, stormwater (construction/industrial), wetlands (Section 404/401), SPCC
- Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) – Hazardous waste generation, storage, treatment, disposal (cradle-to-grave)
- 7-15+ years of relevant professional experience performing environmental technical work within a consulting, industry, or regulatory setting
- Experience supporting other environmental compliance, permitting, monitoring, assessment, or related activities
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- Strong technical writing, documentation, and data interpretation skills
- Working knowledge of environmental regulations applicable to assigned projects
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- High attention to detail and accuracy
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize work, and meet project deadlines
- Ability to work independently with moderate supervision and as part of a project team
- Professional judgment and discretion in technical, regulatory, and client interactions

Physical Demands:
- Approximately 30% fieldwork and 70% office or remote work, depending on project and departmental needs

- Potential exposure to environmental or industrial conditions during field activities, with appropriate training and personal protective equipment provided
- Ability to travel to project sites, including occasional overnight travel, as required by assigned projects
