Human Resources Jobs in Alabama: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a human resources professional in Alabama?
Alabama does not require a state-issued license to work in human resources, so entry depends on education and voluntary credentials. Most Alabama employers expect at least a bachelor's degree in human resources, business, or a related field. Earning a SHRM-CP or PHR certification through the Society for Human Resource Management or the HR Certification Institute strengthens your candidacy significantly. The Alabama SHRM State Council supports local chapter networks that connect candidates with employers across the state.
Which companies hire human resources professionals in Alabama?
Companies currently hiring human resources professionals in Alabama include Regions Financial, University of Alabama, Birmingham, and AAA USA, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Alabama's mix of automotive manufacturers, defense contractors, and large regional health systems creates diverse HR openings ranging from plant-level HR generalists to corporate benefits managers.
Which Alabama cities have the most human resources jobs?
Birmingham, Huntsville, and Tuscaloosa account for the largest share of human resources openings in Alabama. Birmingham drives volume through its dense concentration of financial institutions, hospital systems, and corporate headquarters, while Huntsville's expanding aerospace and defense sector supports sizable HR teams, and Montgomery's state government agencies and manufacturing employers generate consistent demand for HR professionals.
Are there remote human resources jobs in Alabama?
Yes, and they are more common than in many fields, since much of HR work is desk-based and system-driven. About 13% of human resources openings tied to Alabama are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting broader flexibility across the profession. Roles in recruiting, HR operations, and benefits administration tend to be the most remote-eligible, while employee relations and HR business partner positions more often require on-site presence.
How can I get hired as a human resources professional in Alabama with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry point is an HR coordinator or HR assistant role, where Alabama employers, including large health systems like UAB Medicine and manufacturers like Honda Manufacturing of Alabama, regularly hire candidates with a relevant degree but limited work history. Completing an internship through the University of Alabama, Auburn University, or a local community college HR program builds the applied experience employers want. Earning a SHRM student membership or an entry-level certification also gives your application a concrete edge over other new graduates.
Where can I find and apply to human resources jobs in Alabama?
