Job Description
Albemarle is hiring for an E&I Project Specialist. This position is based out of the Kings Mountain, NC site but will also support the Silver Peak, NV site, with field presence as needed during construction and startup activities.
The E&I Project Specialist is a project execution role supporting Albemarle’s US Energy Storage capital portfolio. This position provides electrical and instrumentation (E&I) design development and field execution leadership for site capital projects, ensuring systems are safely installed, commissioned, and turned over to operations.
This role functions as a hybrid between design support and field supervision—developing construction-ready deliverables while overseeing contractors performing installation, checkout, and startup of E&I systems. The position emphasizes constructability, installation quality, and field coordination and requires strong hands-on industrial E&I experience.
The successful candidate brings practical expertise in industrial electrical and instrumentation systems, with demonstrated ability to translate design intent into executable field work, manage contractor performance, and drive safe, high-quality project delivery.
What You Will Do
Project Execution & Field Leadership
- Support delivery of E&I scope across capital projects from design through construction, commissioning, and handover
- Provide field leadership during construction, including contractor oversight, work coordination, and installation verification
- Ensure all work is executed in accordance with project scope, site standards, and safety requirements
- Serve as the primary E&I field point-of-contact for project teams, contractors, and operations
- Identify and resolve field issues, including constructability challenges and design gaps
E& I Design Development & Construction Packages
- Develop construction work packages to support contractor execution, including:
- Location plans and routing drawings
- Installation details and termination drawings
- Instrument indexes, loop diagrams, and I/O lists
- Scope of work documentation for contractors
- Support development of P&IDs, control strategies, and system designs in coordination with engineering
- Ensure designs are practical, constructible, and aligned with standards and specifications
Equipment Specification & Procurement Support
- Specify and support procurement of instrumentation and electrical equipment, including:
- Process instrumentation (flow, pressure, level, analyzers, control valves)
- Electrical equipment (lighting, transformers, MCCs, VFDs, motor control systems)
- Coordinate with procurement and vendors to ensure complete and accurate technical scope
- Review vendor submittals for alignment with project and site requirements
Installation, Commissioning & Startup
- Lead or support installation, checkout, and commissioning of new E&I systems
- Coordinate loop checks, system testing, and functional verification
- Support troubleshooting and optimization of installed systems during startup
- Ensure proper documentation, punch list closure, and turnover to operations
Planning, Estimating & Coordination
- Support project planning activities including estimating, scheduling, and work sequencing
- Participate in constructability reviews and contribute to execution planning
- Coordinate across disciplines (mechanical, civil, process, operations) to ensure alignment of E&I scope
Safety & Compliance
- Champion safety-first execution by leading safety tailgates and reinforcing safe work practices
- Ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards (OSHA, NFPA 70E, NEC, etc.)
- Support hazard identification efforts and ensure safe installation and startup of systems
