Materials Manager – Centerville, Tennessee
Duncan & Grove manufactures natural timber playground equipment. We're hiring a Materials Manager for our Centerville, Tennessee facility to own materials from purchase order to loaded truck. This is a management team position — you'll sit alongside the people running production and design, and have a real say in how the operation works.
Every product we build has a bill of materials. You'll buy what those jobs need, manage the stock room, get the right materials out to the right work area, and make sure finished jobs go out packed and complete. It's about half computer work and half on your feet — if you want one or the other exclusively, this isn't the role.
What you'll do
Review bills of materials for each job and check them against the design to confirm the materials are right
Purchase materials and stock — buying in bulk where it makes sense and sourcing competitive prices
Manage stock levels and run the stock room, including all fixings
Book in and check deliveries against paperwork, flagging shortages and damage
Physically allocate materials and fixings to the work areas building each job, and record every allocation in the system against that project
Package outgoing orders — products ship disassembled in modules, so you'll make sure loose fixings are packed and go out with the right delivery
Book outbound deliveries, including international shipments
Keep the yard and stock room organized, labeled, and safe
What we're looking for
Sharp — you pick things up quickly and think a step ahead
Strong attention to detail — a wrong fixing count or a missed line on a bill of materials stops a build, and you're the person who catches it
Initiative — you chase suppliers, solve problems, and don't wait to be asked
Computer literate and genuinely comfortable working in a system — a good part of this job is on a screen
Happy to do physical work: checking deliveries, moving materials, packing orders
Reliable, and ready to contribute at management level
Experience in purchasing, stock control, warehousing, shipping, or manufacturing is welcome. Forklift certification, freight or export experience, and familiarity with inventory or ERP systems are helpful but not essential — we'll train the right person.
Why it's a good time to join
We're building the Centerville operation from the ground up, so you'll help shape how it runs rather than inherit someone else's system. You'll be part of the management team from day one. As we grow, a yard operative will join to support the physical side of allocation and packing.

Purchasing Manager Jobs in Tennessee: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a purchasing manager in Tennessee?
Most purchasing managers in Tennessee start with a bachelor's degree in supply chain management, business administration, or a closely related field. Tennessee does not require a state-issued license to work as a purchasing manager, but employers strongly favor candidates who hold the Certified Professional in Supply Management credential from the Institute for Supply Management. Gaining experience in procurement analyst or buyer roles at Tennessee manufacturers or hospital systems is the most direct path to a manager-level position.
How much do purchasing managers make in Tennessee?
Purchasing managers in Tennessee earn a median of about $137,060 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $90,340 for the lowest 10% to over $228,230 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire purchasing managers in Tennessee?
Employers hiring purchasing managers in Tennessee right now include AESC, CMBB, and ARCOSA, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Tennessee's strong manufacturing base and large hospital networks mean procurement talent is in demand across both industrial and healthcare organizations throughout the state.
Which Tennessee cities have the most purchasing manager jobs?
Memphis, Jackson, and Waverly hold the most purchasing manager openings in Tennessee. Nashville leads because of its dense concentration of healthcare systems and corporate headquarters, Memphis benefits from major logistics and distribution operations tied to its freight hub status, and Chattanooga draws demand from its growing advanced manufacturing and automotive supplier cluster.
Are there remote purchasing manager jobs in Tennessee?
Yes, but they're less common than in purely analytical fields because purchasing managers frequently coordinate on-site with warehouse teams, suppliers, and operations staff. About 50% of purchasing manager openings tied to Tennessee are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, reflecting selective flexibility among employers. Strategic sourcing and contract negotiation functions are the sub-areas most likely to be approved for remote or hybrid arrangements.
How can I get hired as a purchasing manager in Tennessee with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry point is a purchasing assistant or procurement analyst role, which large Tennessee employers in manufacturing and healthcare regularly post for candidates without management experience. Nissan's North American operations in Smyrna and HCA Healthcare in Nashville both run rotational and development programs that place early-career candidates on sourcing teams. Completing an associate-level supply chain certification and building familiarity with ERP systems gives candidates a concrete edge when applying to these roles.
