Registered Nurse Operating Room Jobs in West Virginia: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a registered nurse operating room in West Virginia?
You become a registered nurse operating room in West Virginia by earning an accredited nursing degree, passing the NCLEX-RN, and obtaining a license through the West Virginia Board of Examiners for Registered Professional Nurses. West Virginia participates in the Nurse Licensure Compact, so nurses licensed in another compact state can often practice without a separate state license. Most hospitals then require completing a perioperative nursing orientation or residency program before independent OR assignment.
How much do registered nurse operating rooms make in West Virginia?
Registered nurse operating rooms in West Virginia earn a median of about $80,130 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $57,210 for the lowest 10% to over $131,760 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire registered nurse operating rooms in West Virginia?
West Virginia registered nurse operating room roles are posted by Mon Health, WVU Medicine, and American Traveler and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Large integrated health systems anchored in cities like Charleston and Morgantown tend to post the most consistent openings given their volume of scheduled and emergency surgical cases.
Which West Virginia cities have the most registered nurse operating room jobs?
Charleston, Morgantown, and Bridgeport are the West Virginia cities with the most registered nurse operating room openings. Charleston leads because of its concentration of major health system campuses and trauma facilities, while Morgantown's openings are driven largely by WVU Medicine and its academic medical center, and Huntington benefits from Marshall Health and the regional referral volume it attracts from the Tri-State area.
Are there remote registered nurse operating room jobs in West Virginia?
Yes, but they're rare. Registered nurse operating room work is inherently hands-on and requires a sterile surgical environment, which limits remote options significantly. About 0% of registered nurse operating room openings tied to West Virginia are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, and those positions typically involve pre-admission nursing assessments, surgical scheduling coordination, or telehealth-adjacent roles rather than direct scrub or circulator duties.
How can I get hired as a registered nurse operating room in West Virginia with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying to a perioperative residency or new-graduate OR internship, which WVU Medicine and CAMC Health System have offered to nurses without prior surgical experience. Candidates coming from medical-surgical, emergency, or critical care nursing roles have a strong advantage because of their patient assessment and acute-care skills. Earning your CNOR or completing a perioperative nursing course before applying signals commitment and helps you stand out in a competitive applicant pool.
Where can I find and apply to registered nurse operating room jobs in West Virginia?
You can find and apply to registered nurse operating room jobs in West Virginia on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across the state. Search for roles that match your specialty, experience level, and preferred location, then apply directly to the ones that fit. No signup is required to see the listings.
