Job Title: Safety Coordinator
Reports To: Production Manager
FLSA Status: Non Exempt
Summary
Plans, directs, and implements the organization's safety program to ensure a safe, healthy, and accident free work environment by performing the following duties personally or through supervisors.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Plans and implements safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) rules and regulations.
- Plans and implements programs to train managers and employees in work site safety practices, fire prevention, and correct handling techniques for chemicals, toxins, equipment, and other materials.
- Prepares studies and analyses of industrial accidents causes and hazards to health for use by company personnel and outside agencies.
- Inspects organization facilities to detect existing or potential accidents and health hazards, determines corrective or preventive measures where indicated, and follows up to ensure measures have been implemented.
- Provides information, signs, posters, barriers, and other materials to warn of safety hazards and to prevent access to hazardous conditions.
- Leads the investigation of accidents and injuries and cooperates in the preparation of material and evidence for organization use in hearings, lawsuits, and insurance investigations.
- Compiles and submits accident reports required by regulatory agencies.
- Oversees the administration of the workers' compensation program, including working with the insurance carrier to reduce employee lost time.
- Prepares and arranges safety exhibits and materials for display, promotional work, industry conferences, and exhibitions.
- Represents the organization in community or industry safety groups and programs.
- Maintains safety files and records, both written and electronic.
Qualifications
- Manufacturing experience preferred
- Ability to work with a senior leadership team.
- Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of management, employees, and vendors.
- Personal integrity and able to perform all job responsibilities in an ethical and non-discriminatory manner.
- Ability to retain confidential information.
- Problem-solving and reasoning ability to collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills and can effectively communicate with all levels within the organization, customers, and corporate officials.
- Determination and assertiveness to accomplish goals and objectives.
Safety and Security
Observes safety and security procedures; Determines appropriate action beyond guidelines; Reports potentially unsafe conditions; Uses equipment and materials properly.
Education and/or Experience
Associate's degree (A.A.) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school; four to five years related experience and/or training in the housing environment; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
