Role Purpose
The Safety Manager is responsible for leading the organization’s safety program, ensuring OSHA compliance, reducing workplace risk, achieving safety performance goals, and building a proactive culture where safety is understood as everyone’s responsibility.
This role requires a hands-on safety professional who combines technical expertise with the emotional intelligence and communication skills necessary to influence behaviors, build trust, and drive accountability at all levels of the organization.
Core Accountabilities
- Safety Leadership & Culture – Lead and shape a proactive safety culture by building relationships, increasing employee engagement, coaching safe behaviors, and creating shared accountability for workplace safety.
- OSHA Compliance & Risk Management – Ensure compliance with OSHA and applicable safety regulations while proactively identifying hazards, assessing risk, and implementing preventive measures.
- Safety KPIs & Performance – Own the achievement of established safety KPIs. Track and analyze performance, identify trends and areas of risk, and implement action plans to improve results.
- Workers’ Compensation Management – Oversee workers’ compensation effectiveness, including timely incident reporting, claim management, return-to-work efforts, trend analysis, and partnership with employees, leaders, carriers, and external partners to improve outcomes and control costs.
- Fleet & Driver Safety – Own safety for a fleet of approximately 30 vehicles, including preventive maintenance scheduling and vehicle inspections, driver qualification and MVR monitoring, driver safety training, and reducing the frequency and severity of vehicle-related incidents.
- Incident Management & Prevention – Lead investigations of workplace injuries, incidents, and near misses; identify root causes and ensure effective corrective and preventive actions are implemented and sustained.
- Safety Training & Employee Engagement – Develop and facilitate practical safety training that builds employee knowledge, participation, and ownership of workplace safety.
Requirements
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive safety management experience, with direct experience in a manufacturing, industrial, skilled trades, or field-service environment.
- Strong working knowledge of OSHA regulations, compliance, reporting, recordkeeping, and workplace safety standards.
- Experience with fleet and driver safety programs, including vehicle maintenance compliance, driver qualification, and DOT/FMCSA requirements where applicable.
- Demonstrated experience managing safety KPIs and workers’ compensation programs and outcomes.
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP) preferred.
Experience with safety inspections, risk assessments, incident investigations, root-cause analysis, and corrective action.
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health & Safety, Industrial Safety, or a related field preferred; equivalent relevant experience considered.
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary range of $75,000 – $85,000 annually, depending on experience
