Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Senior Safety Manager to help lead enterprise-wide safety strategy and execution across construction operations in the Detroit metropolitan area and job sites throughout North America. This role is responsible for program governance, risk analytics, leadership of safety initiatives, and training and development for field and corporate teams. The ideal candidate brings deep construction knowledge, strong safety management leadership, and the ability to build scalable systems that strengthen compliance, reduce risk, and advance a proactive safety culture.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of the corporate construction safety management system across multiple projects, business units, and operating locations.
- Establish governance frameworks, standards, policies, and accountability measures that align with OSHA requirements, company objectives, and client expectations.
- Monitor regulatory compliance and internal conformance through audits, inspections, management reviews, and corrective action tracking.
- Develop and maintain enterprise safety dashboards and risk analytics that measure leading and lagging indicators, incident trends, audit results, near-miss reporting, and corrective action closure rates.
- Use data analysis to identify systemic risk patterns, prioritize mitigation strategies, and support leadership decision-making.
- Partner with operations, project management, and executive leadership to integrate safety expectations into planning, mobilization, contractor management, and execution.
- Lead serious incident investigations, root cause analyses, and lessons-learned processes to prevent recurrence and improve organizational performance.
- Build, coach, and mentor site safety professionals and operational leaders to strengthen field engagement, accountability, and safety ownership.
- Develop and deliver training programs for leaders, supervisors, craft employees, and subcontractors, including orientation, regulatory training, hazard recognition, leadership development, and refresher programs.
- Create talent development pathways for safety staff through coaching, performance feedback, succession planning, and competency development.
- Oversee contractor and subcontractor safety qualification processes, performance reviews, and ongoing compliance expectations.
- Support business growth by contributing safety requirements and risk considerations to bids, proposals, preconstruction planning, and client presentations when needed.
- Promote a culture of continuous improvement through field presence, communication, recognition, and collaboration across the organization.
Required Qualifications
- 10+ years of progressive safety management experience, including leadership of health and safety programs.
- 5+ years of hands-on construction experience with strong knowledge of field operations, jobsite hazards, and project delivery practices.
- Demonstrated success building and governing enterprise safety programs across multi-site operating environments.
- Strong analytical capability with experience using metrics, dashboards, and incident data to drive risk reduction and performance improvement.
- Proven leadership experience managing teams, influencing operations leaders, and driving accountability across diverse stakeholder groups.
- Experience designing and delivering safety training and professional development programs for multiple levels of the organization.
- Working knowledge of OSHA construction standards, incident investigation methodologies, hazard analysis, and compliance auditing.
- Excellent communication, facilitation, and presentation skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and safety management or reporting systems.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to project sites throughout the Detroit area and surrounding region.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in occupational safety, construction management, engineering, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Professional certifications such as CSP, ASP, or CHST.
- Experience supporting large-scale commercial, industrial, manufacturing, energy, or automotive construction projects.
- Familiarity with contractor management systems, enterprise reporting tools, and behavior-based or culture-based safety initiatives.
- Experience working in union construction environments.

The successful candidate will be a strategic and visible leader who can translate safety expectations into disciplined execution across the organization. This person will combine strong governance practices with practical field credibility, use risk analytics to inform action, and develop leaders and establish relationships with teams who treat safety as a core business value.
This position is based out of our Corporate Headquarters in Troy, MI and will require approximately 20% travel to sites in the Detroit Metropolitan area and throughout North America.
