Sales Engineer Jobs in Massachusetts: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a sales engineer in Massachusetts?
Most Massachusetts employers require a bachelor's degree in mechanical, electrical, or software engineering, or a closely related technical discipline. Massachusetts does not issue a state license specifically for sales engineers, so no state-board exam or registration applies. Candidates typically build credibility through engineering or product roles before moving into technical sales, and certifications from recognized industry bodies in areas like cloud architecture or industrial controls strengthen applications significantly.
How much do sales engineers make in Massachusetts?
Sales engineers in Massachusetts earn a median of about $136,200 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $77,490 for the lowest 10% to over $177,100 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire sales engineers in Massachusetts?
Employers hiring sales engineers in Massachusetts right now include Morris Group, Carrier, and Black Duck Software, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Massachusetts's concentration of defense contractors, medtech firms, and enterprise software companies means demand for sales engineers with deep technical backgrounds stays consistent throughout the year.
Which Massachusetts cities have the most sales engineer jobs?
Boston, Burlington, and Canton lead Massachusetts for sales engineer openings. Boston drives volume through its dense cluster of enterprise software, biotech, and professional services firms, while Waltham and Lowell attract openings tied to the Route 128 technology corridor, where large hardware, defense, and automation employers maintain significant regional offices and sales teams.
Are there remote sales engineer jobs in Massachusetts?
Yes, and more than many technical roles. About 48% of sales engineer openings tied to Massachusetts are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting how much of the pre-sales and solution design work happens over video and shared demos. The portions of the role involving on-site equipment evaluations or executive briefings at client facilities typically still require in-person presence.
How can I get hired as a sales engineer in Massachusetts with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a sales development or associate solutions engineer role at a Massachusetts technology or medtech company, where structured onboarding programs at employers like MathWorks, Cognex, or PTC train candidates who have strong engineering fundamentals but limited sales experience. A degree in engineering or computer science carries the most weight, and earning a cloud or product-specific certification before applying sharpens a resume considerably. Adjacent roles in technical support, field applications engineering, or product management at Massachusetts firms are also well-established stepping stones.
Where can I find and apply to sales engineer jobs in Massachusetts?
You can find and apply to sales engineer jobs in Massachusetts on Migrate Mate, which lists current Massachusetts openings across industries and experience levels. Find roles that fit your background and apply directly.
