Senior Solutions Engineer Jobs in Maryland: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a senior solutions engineer in Maryland?
Most senior solutions engineers in Maryland reach the role by combining a bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, or engineering with several years of pre-sales, systems integration, or technical consulting experience. Maryland's market is heavily shaped by federal contracting, so candidates who obtain a security clearance or hold certifications from AWS, Microsoft, or Cisco stand out. Many professionals move up from solutions consultant, sales engineer, or systems analyst roles at Maryland-based defense and technology firms.
How much do senior solutions engineers make in Maryland?
Senior solutions engineers in Maryland earn a median of about $153,410 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $102,490 for the lowest 10% to over $153,410 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire senior solutions engineers in Maryland?
Maryland senior solutions engineer roles are posted by Amazon Web Services, The Baldwin, and BD and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Maryland's concentration of federal contractors and cybersecurity firms means many openings are tied to long-term government programs that create sustained, recurring demand for senior technical talent.
Which Maryland cities have the most senior solutions engineer jobs?
Jessup, Baltimore, and Bethesda hold the largest share of senior solutions engineer openings in Maryland. The Washington D.C. suburbs, particularly Bethesda and Rockville, draw openings tied to federal agencies and their primary contractors, while Baltimore anchors demand from enterprise technology and healthcare IT firms with large regional footprints.
Are there remote senior solutions engineer jobs in Maryland?
Yes, and more than most technical fields, because the role centers on client presentations, architecture reviews, and proposal work that can be done virtually. About 100% of senior solutions engineer openings tied to Maryland are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, reflecting how widely distributed the client base is across federal agencies and enterprise accounts. The pre-sales and scoping phases of the role are the most remote-friendly, while on-site work is more common during proof-of-concept or implementation phases.
How can I get hired as a senior solutions engineer in Maryland with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is moving laterally from a technical support, systems administrator, or inside sales engineer role at a Maryland technology or defense firm, then building toward a solutions engineering title over time. Large Maryland employers such as Leidos and Northrop Grumman run associate and early-career technical programs that place candidates without direct solutions engineering experience into supporting roles on major contracts. Earning a cloud or vendor certification, such as AWS Solutions Architect Associate or Microsoft Azure Administrator, gives candidates a concrete credential that hiring managers in Maryland's federal IT market recognize and prioritize.
Where can I find and apply to senior solutions engineer jobs in Maryland?
You can find and apply to senior solutions engineer jobs in Maryland on Migrate Mate, which lists current Maryland openings. Search the listings to find roles that match your background, experience level, and preferred location, then apply directly to the ones that fit.
