Senior Solutions Engineer Jobs in California: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a senior solutions engineer in California?
Most senior solutions engineers in California move into the role after several years in a technical or customer-facing position such as software engineering, technical support, or systems consulting. California employers typically expect a bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field, though candidates with equivalent experience and strong product knowledge are regularly considered. Building expertise in a specific platform ecosystem, such as Salesforce, AWS, or Cisco, and demonstrating a history of closing enterprise deals in a presales capacity accelerates the path to senior roles.
How much do senior solutions engineers make in California?
Senior solutions engineers in California earn a median of about $139,160 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $78,850 for the lowest 10% to over $213,370 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire senior solutions engineers in California?
Employers hiring senior solutions engineers in California right now include Amazon Web Services, NVIDIA, and American Heart Association, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. California's concentration of enterprise software headquarters and large technology accounts teams means demand for presales and solutions talent is consistent year-round.
Which California cities have the most senior solutions engineer jobs?
San Francisco, Santa Clara, and Los Angeles have the most senior solutions engineer openings in California. The Bay Area leads because of its density of enterprise software and cloud companies headquartered there, while Los Angeles reflects growth in media technology and cybersecurity, and San Diego draws demand from defense technology and life sciences sectors that require dedicated solutions engineering support.
Are there remote senior solutions engineer jobs in California?
Yes, and more than most fields. Senior solutions engineering is heavily relationship-driven but largely desk-based, making remote and hybrid arrangements common across the industry. About 72% of senior solutions engineer openings tied to California are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, reflecting how widely California technology employers have adopted flexible work models. The parts of the role involving internal collaboration, proposal development, and product demonstration tend to be the most remote-friendly.
How can I get hired as a senior solutions engineer in California with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is moving from a technical adjacent role, such as software developer, technical support engineer, or systems administrator, into an associate or junior solutions engineer position at a California-based technology company. Large Bay Area and Los Angeles employers regularly hire new graduates or career changers into solutions development programs or sales engineer rotational tracks. Building hands-on certification in a major platform like AWS, Salesforce, or Google Cloud, and practicing live product demonstrations, gives candidates a clear edge when applying to those entry roles.
Where can I find and apply to senior solutions engineer jobs in California?
