The most direct path is a bachelor's degree in human resources, organizational development, adult education, or a related field, followed by progressive experience in learning and development or HR generalist roles. New York does not require a state-issued license for this role. However, earning a credential such as the ATD Certified Professional in Talent Development or a SHRM certification significantly strengthens candidacy with New York's large corporate and healthcare employers, where competition is high.
How much do talent development managers make in New York?
Talent development managers in New York earn a median of about $171,400 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $103,590 for the lowest 10% to over $280,850 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire talent development managers in New York?
Employers hiring talent development managers in New York right now include Jobot, Alfred University, and Brex, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. New York's concentration of global financial institutions, major hospital networks, and media companies means demand for talent development expertise is consistent and broad.
Which New York cities have the most talent development manager jobs?
New York, Brooklyn, and Rochester have the most talent development manager openings in New York. New York City dominates by volume due to the density of corporate headquarters, financial firms, and large healthcare systems headquartered or regionally anchored there, while Albany and Buffalo carry demand from state government agencies, regional health systems, and manufacturing operations.
Are there remote talent development manager jobs in New York?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 19% of talent development manager openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting the fact that curriculum design, LMS administration, and virtual facilitation can be done from anywhere. Roles that involve in-person leadership workshops or new-hire orientation tend to require at least some on-site presence.
How can I get hired as a talent development manager in New York with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry point is an HR coordinator, training coordinator, or instructional design assistant role at a large New York employer such as a hospital system, a financial services firm, or a city or state agency. Northwell Health and the City of New York both run structured early-career HR and learning programs. Building a portfolio of training materials or a facilitated session recording, alongside a SHRM-CP or ATD certificate, gives candidates a concrete advantage over applicants with no credentials.
