Job Description Summary:
The Graduate Teaching Assistant (GTA) supports faculty in delivering nursing education across classroom, simulation, and laboratory settings. This position assists with instructional activities, student learning support, and course administration while modeling professional nursing standards.

Job Duties
- Support faculty in classroom, simulation, and lab-based instruction under faculty supervision.
- Facilitate small-group learning activities, skills practice, and review sessions under faculty direction.
- Assist with evaluation of student performance in alignment with faculty direction and established grading criteria and rubrics.
- Provide instructional support to students through review sessions, skills guidance, and clarification of course content as directed by faculty.
- Support course administration, including preparation of instructional materials, tracking assignments, and coordination of learning activities.
- Maintain accurate academic and grading records in accordance with course and program requirements.
- Complete assigned responsibilities within established timeline.

Required Qualifications:
Education: A current graduate student enrolled in a KU School of Nursing graduate program (minimum of 6 credit hours).
This position requires enrollment in a formal degree in the cited discipline area(s) to ensure that candidates have advanced knowledge, analytical skills and professional competencies necessary to perform the duties of the position. The level of degree is commonly recognized as the standard qualification for similar roles in the public and private sector, ensuring that the university remains competitive with industry aligned practices, enhances collaboration with external partners, and supports the delivery of services and programs that meet professional and market-driven expectations.
Certifications/Licenses: Active, unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license issued by the State of Kansas or a multistate RN license from a Nurse Licensure Compact state.
Preferred Qualifications
Education:
- Completion of at least one (1) year of graduate-level coursework.
Certifications/Licenses:
- Enrollment in the KUMC Health Educator Certificate program.
Work Experience
- One (1) year of clinical nursing experience.
- Experience as a nursing preceptor, graduate teaching assistant, or in an instructional support role.

Compensation Statement:
The pay range listed for this position is determined by our compensation program using market data and salary benchmarking. A combination of factors is considered in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, education, experience and training, qualifications relative to the requirements of the position, and funding. At the University of Kansas Medical Center, a reasonable estimate for the starting pay range will be the minimum to midpoint of the posted range, taking into account the combination of factors listed above.
