Technical Accounting Manager Jobs in North Dakota: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a technical accounting manager in North Dakota?
The standard path starts with a bachelor's degree in accounting and passing all four sections of the CPA exam, which is administered through the North Dakota State Board of Accountancy. Most North Dakota employers expect candidates to hold an active CPA license before moving into a manager-level role. From there, building experience in financial reporting, consolidations, or audit at a North Dakota public accounting firm or in the accounting department of a large energy, agricultural, or healthcare organization provides the technical depth employers seek.
How much do technical accounting managers make in North Dakota?
Technical accounting managers in North Dakota earn a median of about $75,730 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $49,330 for the lowest 10% to over $124,960 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire technical accounting managers in North Dakota?
Employers hiring technical accounting managers in North Dakota right now include Intuit, State of North Dakota, and CrossCountry Freight Solutions, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. North Dakota's energy cooperatives, regional health systems, and agricultural finance companies tend to post these roles most consistently throughout the year.
Which North Dakota cities have the most technical accounting manager jobs?
Fargo, Bismarck, and Grand Forks account for the largest share of technical accounting manager openings in North Dakota. Fargo drives the most activity as the state's largest commercial center, home to regional corporate headquarters and financial services firms, while Bismarck concentrates demand through state government agencies, utilities, and Basin Electric Power Cooperative, and Minot sees steady postings from energy sector employers operating in the Bakken region.
Are there remote technical accounting manager jobs in North Dakota?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 9% of technical accounting manager openings tied to North Dakota are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting the desk-based and analytical nature of the role. Tasks such as technical research, memo preparation, and financial close work are well suited to remote arrangements, while roles tied to audit coordination or ERP implementation typically require some on-site presence.
How can I get hired as a technical accounting manager in North Dakota with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is joining a North Dakota public accounting firm, such as a regional firm based in Fargo or Bismarck, in an audit or assurance associate role where technical accounting exposure builds naturally. Large North Dakota employers like Sanford Health and Basin Electric Power Cooperative also hire accounting associates and senior accountants as feeders into manager-level positions. Completing your CPA licensure through the North Dakota State Board of Accountancy and volunteering for complex technical projects, such as lease accounting implementations or acquisition accounting, accelerates the path considerably.
Where can I find and apply to technical accounting manager jobs in North Dakota?
