Technical Sales Consultant Jobs in Delaware: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a technical sales consultant in Delaware?
Most Delaware employers require a bachelor's degree in engineering, chemistry, biology, or a related technical discipline as the foundation. Delaware does not require a state-issued sales license for this role, so entry depends on combining a technical degree with demonstrated sales aptitude. Candidates often move into the role from engineering, lab science, or field service positions. Earning a Certified Technical Sales Professional credential through a recognized industry body strengthens applications considerably with Delaware's manufacturing and life sciences employers.
How much do technical sales consultants make in Delaware?
Technical sales consultants in Delaware earn a median of about $167,200 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $132,000 for the lowest 10% to over $203,690 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire technical sales consultants in Delaware?
Companies currently hiring technical sales consultants in Delaware include KBR, JPMorganChase, and Berkley Technology Services, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Delaware's concentration of specialty chemical, pharmaceutical, and advanced materials companies means demand for consultants who can sell into highly technical buying committees is consistently strong across the state.
Which Delaware cities have the most technical sales consultant jobs?
Wilmington, Newark, and New Castle account for the largest share of technical sales consultant openings in Delaware. Wilmington leads because it serves as the commercial and corporate headquarters hub for DuPont, Chemours, and a cluster of financial and life sciences firms, while Newark and Dover attract openings tied to University of Delaware research partnerships and state government procurement activity.
Are there remote technical sales consultant jobs in Delaware?
Yes, and more than many technical roles, because a portion of the work, including proposal writing, CRM management, and virtual client meetings, transfers well to remote settings. About 43% of technical sales consultant openings tied to Delaware are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting growing employer flexibility. The most remote-friendly tasks are inside sales functions, while field demonstration and on-site client visits typically require in-person presence.
How can I get hired as a technical sales consultant in Delaware with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying for inside sales associate or sales development representative roles at Delaware's large chemical and life sciences employers, where structured rotational programs exist for candidates with a relevant technical degree but no prior sales experience. DuPont and Chemours have historically brought on junior commercial talent through associate programs tied to their Wilmington operations. Building product knowledge in a field service or applications engineering role first is another common route, and completing a sales methodology certification before applying gives a measurable edge.
Where can I find and apply to technical sales consultant jobs in Delaware?
