Technical Sales Specialist Jobs in Louisiana: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a technical sales specialist in Louisiana?
Most Louisiana employers require a bachelor's degree in engineering, chemistry, or industrial technology paired with direct product knowledge in the sector you'll serve. Louisiana does not impose a separate state license for technical sales, but roles touching licensed engineering work may require coordination with a Louisiana Professional Engineer. Building experience in a field application, inside sales, or technical support role at an energy or chemical company is the most reliable path into the specialty.
How much do technical sales specialists make in Louisiana?
Technical sales specialists in Louisiana earn a median of about $121,680 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $80,410 for the lowest 10% to over $166,720 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire technical sales specialists in Louisiana?
Companies currently hiring technical sales specialists in Louisiana include Jacobs, Aggreko, and Williams, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of November 2026. Louisiana's concentration of petrochemical plants, offshore operators, and heavy industrial facilities means demand is especially consistent along the Gulf Coast corridor.
Which Louisiana cities have the most technical sales specialist jobs?
New Orleans, Baton Rouge, and Central have the most technical sales specialist openings in Louisiana. Baton Rouge and the greater New Orleans area anchor the market because of their dense clusters of refinery operations, chemical manufacturing campuses, and regional distribution hubs, while smaller industrial centers like Lake Charles draw openings tied to large LNG and petrochemical expansion projects.
Are there remote technical sales specialist jobs in Louisiana?
Yes, but they're less common than in purely analytical roles because the work regularly involves plant visits, equipment demonstrations, and on-site client meetings. About 50% of technical sales specialist openings tied to Louisiana are remote or hybrid as of November 2026, reflecting the field's inherently hands-on character. The portions most likely to be remote are proposal writing, CRM management, and inside-sales coordination roles that do not require frequent facility access.
How can I get hired as a technical sales specialist in Louisiana with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a technical support or inside sales associate role at a Louisiana industrial distributor or manufacturer's representative firm, where you build product knowledge before moving into field sales. Large employers with Gulf Coast operations, including refinery contractors and automation vendors, occasionally hire graduates from Louisiana State University, Tulane, or Louisiana Tech into rotational or junior territory programs. A strong engineering internship, an EIT credential, or hands-on co-op experience at a chemical or process facility gives candidates a meaningful edge over applicants with only a degree.
Where can I find and apply to technical sales specialist jobs in Louisiana?
You can find and apply to technical sales specialist jobs in Louisiana on Migrate Mate, which lists current Louisiana openings in one place. Search for roles that match your industry background and territory preference, then apply directly to the listings that fit your experience.
