Technical Sales Specialist Jobs in New York: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a technical sales specialist in New York?
Most technical sales specialists in New York enter through a bachelor's degree in engineering, life sciences, computer science, or business, paired with an internship or early-career role in a technical field. New York does not require a state license for the general technical sales role, though specialists selling medical devices, pharmaceuticals, or certain financial products may need relevant manufacturer training certifications or FINRA registration depending on the product category. Large employers in the New York City metro and Long Island life sciences corridor routinely hire candidates who combine technical coursework with a proven interest in client-facing work.
How much do technical sales specialists make in New York?
Technical sales specialists in New York earn a median of about $137,480 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $78,690 for the lowest 10% to over $218,680 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire technical sales specialists in New York?
Employers hiring technical sales specialists in New York right now include Thermo Fisher Scientific, Meta, and Samsara, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. New York's dense concentration of enterprise technology firms, global pharmaceutical companies, and financial institutions means demand is consistent across multiple industries rather than tied to a single sector.
Which New York cities have the most technical sales specialist jobs?
New York and Buffalo have the most technical sales specialist openings in New York. New York City drives the largest share because it is home to the headquarters and regional offices of major enterprise software, financial technology, and healthcare firms, while the Long Island and Albany markets reflect the area's strength in life sciences, advanced manufacturing, and state government procurement accounts.
Are there remote technical sales specialist jobs in New York?
Yes, and more than many technical roles. About 42% of technical sales specialist openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting the reality that much of the sales cycle, including discovery calls, demos, and negotiations, happens over video and phone. On-site presence is typically required only for client visits, trade shows, or lab and facility demonstrations tied to the specific product.
How can I get hired as a technical sales specialist in New York with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a sales development representative or associate account executive role at a New York-based technology or life sciences company, where you build prospecting and product knowledge skills before moving into a full technical sales position. Companies like IBM and Siemens run structured early-career commercial programs in the New York metro that are designed for recent graduates without direct sales experience. A relevant technical degree, a completed internship with a client-facing component, or a Salesforce certification all give candidates a measurable edge when competing for these entry roles.
Where can I find and apply to technical sales specialist jobs in New York?
You can find and apply to technical sales specialist jobs in New York on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings tied to the New York market. Search the listings, find the roles that fit your background and target industry, and apply directly to each one.
