Technical Support Technician Jobs in Minnesota: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a technical support technician in Minnesota?
Most technical support technician roles in Minnesota do not require a state-issued license, so the path centers on education and vendor credentials. An associate or bachelor's degree in information technology or computer science is the most common foundation, though some employers accept a high school diploma combined with CompTIA A+ certification. Minnesota's technical and community colleges, including Hennepin Technical College and Saint Paul College, offer IT support programs that align directly with what Minnesota employers post in their listings.
Which companies hire technical support technicians in Minnesota?
Companies currently hiring technical support technicians in Minnesota include Daikin Applied, TEAM Industries, and Watts Water Technologies, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Minnesota's concentration of large healthcare systems, corporate headquarters, and retail technology operations means steady, recurring demand across both full-time and contract technical support roles.
Which Minnesota cities have the most technical support technician jobs?
Minnesota, Plymouth, and Saint Paul account for the most technical support technician openings in Minnesota. The Minneapolis-Saint Paul metro dominates because of its density of corporate headquarters, major health systems, and financial services firms, while Rochester's volume is driven largely by Mayo Clinic's extensive IT infrastructure and any smaller cities in the list typically reflect anchor employers like regional medical centers or university campuses.
Are there remote technical support technician jobs in Minnesota?
Yes, and more than many technical roles, because a meaningful share of support work involves resolving software, account, and connectivity issues that do not require physical presence. About 75% of technical support technician openings tied to Minnesota are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting genuine flexibility across the field. Remote positions are most common in tier-one help desk and service desk roles, while field technician and hardware-focused positions remain largely on-site.
How can I get hired as a technical support technician in Minnesota with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is an IT help desk or desktop support role at a large Minnesota employer, where many organizations hire candidates who hold CompTIA A+ certification even without formal work experience. Best Buy's Geek Squad division and UnitedHealth Group both run structured programs that bring in entry-level IT support staff and provide on-the-job training. Lateral moves from customer service or retail electronics roles are common, and completing an IT support certificate through Hennepin Technical College or Minnesota State colleges strengthens a candidate's application significantly.
Where can I find and apply to technical support technician jobs in Minnesota?
You can find and apply to technical support technician jobs in Minnesota on Migrate Mate, which lists current Minnesota openings updated regularly. Search through the roles available, identify the ones that match your experience and preferred location or work arrangement, and apply directly to the ones that fit.
