- Valid driver's license and a clean driving record.
- Must have a Real ID for domestic air travel.
- Ability to pass a background check.
- Must have a secure area to park a company vehicle, a designated home workspace for administrative duties, and access to high-speed internet.

Tips for Your Technical Support Technician Job Search
Tailor your resume to ticket volume
Hiring managers for technical support roles want to see how many tickets or incidents you handled and how fast you resolved them. Swap vague statements like 'provided support' for specifics about the scope and speed of your work.
List every certification you hold
CompTIA A+, Network+, and Microsoft certifications appear in a large share of technical support technician postings. Put them near the top of your resume so recruiters spot them before they reach your work history.
Apply early to roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists technical support technician openings from across the United States in one place, so you can find roles that match and apply directly to each listing.
Filter by environment type early
Technical support roles differ significantly between an MSP, a corporate help desk, and a field-service environment. Decide which setting fits your experience before you apply so your cover letter speaks directly to how that employer's support model works.
Prepare a break-fix scenario for interviews
Interviewers for technician roles almost always walk you through a diagnostic scenario. Practice describing your troubleshooting sequence out loud, from identifying the symptom to isolating the cause and confirming the fix, before your interview.
Follow up with your ticket resolution rate
After an interview, send a brief follow-up that restates your first-call or first-contact resolution rate. It reinforces the metric most support managers care about and keeps your name in front of the hiring team.
Technical Support Technician Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies are hiring the most technical support technicians?
The companies hiring the most technical support technicians right now include Amazon, ADT, and Vivint, with the largest share of openings in California, Texas, and New York, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Demand is particularly high at managed service providers and large enterprise IT departments.
How many technical support technician jobs are remote?
About 22% of technical support technician openings are fully remote or hybrid as of June 2026, though availability varies by specialization. Roles focused on cloud application support, software troubleshooting, and help desk triage are more likely to be remote than positions requiring on-site hardware repair or field service.
How do you become a technical support technician?
Start by earning a CompTIA A+ certification, which is the most widely recognized entry credential for the role. Build hands-on skills by setting up and troubleshooting your own systems, volunteering for IT tasks, or completing a community college IT program. Then apply to entry-level help desk or desktop support positions, where you gain the ticket-handling experience most employers require.
Can you get hired as a technical support technician with little or no experience?
Yes, entry-level technical support technician roles exist specifically for candidates without formal work experience. Employers in this tier prioritize a CompTIA A+ certification, a demonstrated ability to walk through a diagnostic process clearly, and patience when communicating with non-technical users. Help desk roles at MSPs are often the most accessible starting point because they offer structured training.
What does the technical support technician interview process look like?
Most interviews for technical support technician roles include an initial phone or video screen, followed by a technical assessment where you walk through a troubleshooting scenario or answer hardware and software questions. Some employers add a practical exercise or a shadowing session. Final-round interviews typically involve the hiring manager and a discussion of your experience with specific tools, ticket volume, and customer communication.
Where can I find and apply to technical support technician jobs?
