Ultrasound Technologist Jobs in Massachusetts: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a ultrasound technologist in Massachusetts?
Massachusetts does not issue a separate state license for ultrasound technologists, so the path centers on earning national credentials that employers require. Complete an accredited diagnostic medical sonography program, typically an associate or bachelor's degree, then pass the ARDMS registry exam in your chosen specialty. Most Massachusetts hospital systems and imaging centers treat active ARDMS or ARRT certification as a firm hiring requirement, so having that credential in hand before applying gives you the strongest position.
How much do ultrasound technologists make in Massachusetts?
Ultrasound technologists in Massachusetts earn a median of about $107,480 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $89,190 for the lowest 10% to over $133,480 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire ultrasound technologists in Massachusetts?
Employers hiring ultrasound technologists in Massachusetts right now include UMass Memorial Health, Beth Israel Lahey Health, and Tufts Medicine, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Massachusetts's dense concentration of academic medical centers and large regional health systems means consistent openings appear year-round rather than clustering around seasonal peaks.
Which Massachusetts cities have the most ultrasound technologist jobs?
Boston, Worcester, and Oak Bluffs have the most ultrasound technologist openings in Massachusetts. Boston leads because of its concentration of major academic medical centers and teaching hospitals, while Worcester and Springfield reflect the large regional health systems anchoring those metro areas and the outpatient imaging networks that operate around them.
Are there remote ultrasound technologist jobs in Massachusetts?
Yes, but they're rare. About 0% of ultrasound technologist openings tied to Massachusetts are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, which is expected given that the role requires direct patient contact and hands-on equipment operation. The exceptions tend to be tele-ultrasound quality review, image interpretation support roles, or education and training positions that do not involve direct scanning.
How can I get hired as a ultrasound technologist in Massachusetts with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying for new-graduate sonographer positions at large Massachusetts health systems such as Mass General Brigham or UMass Memorial Health, both of which periodically run structured onboarding programs for recent graduates. Completing clinical rotations at a Massachusetts-affiliated hospital during your accredited program gives you a direct foot in the door with those same employers. Candidates who already hold ARDMS registry eligibility, even before passing, stand out. Lateral moves from roles like patient care technician or medical assistant within the same system are another recognized path into ultrasound.
Where can I find and apply to ultrasound technologist jobs in Massachusetts?
You can find and apply to ultrasound technologist jobs in Massachusetts on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across hospitals, outpatient imaging centers, and health systems throughout the state. Search the listings, find a role that fits your credentials and specialty, and apply directly.
