Veterinarian Jobs in Nevada: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a veterinarian in Nevada?
You must obtain a license from the Nevada State Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners before practicing in Nevada. Licensure requires a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from an AVMA-accredited institution, passing the North American Veterinary Licensing Examination, and completing the Nevada Veterinary Jurisprudence Exam. Applicants who hold an active license in good standing from another state may apply for licensure by endorsement rather than retaking all exams.
How much do veterinarians make in Nevada?
Veterinarians in Nevada earn a median of about $125,550 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $98,860 for the lowest 10% to over $189,620 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire veterinarians in Nevada?
Employers hiring veterinarians in Nevada right now include Petco, DESORT STAFFING, and Banfield Pet Hospital, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Nevada's combination of dense urban pet populations in Las Vegas and Reno and a sizable rural livestock sector means both corporate practice groups and independent specialty hospitals maintain consistent hiring activity year-round.
Which Nevada cities have the most veterinarian jobs?
Las Vegas, Henderson, and Elko account for the most veterinarian openings in Nevada. Las Vegas dominates due to its large pet-owning population and concentration of corporate veterinary chains and specialty hospitals, while Reno draws openings from regional practices serving both urban clients and the agricultural communities of northern Nevada, and Henderson reflects the growth of companion animal care in the Las Vegas metro's southern suburbs.
Are there remote veterinarian jobs in Nevada?
Yes, but they're rare. About 0% of veterinarian openings tied to Nevada are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting the hands-on nature of clinical practice. The portions of the role most amenable to remote work are veterinary telehealth consultations, medical record review, and specialist second-opinion services, which a small number of Nevada employers and national telehealth platforms offer.
How can I get hired as a veterinarian in Nevada with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying for a new-graduate associate position at a corporate practice group, as VCA Animal Hospitals and Banfield Pet Hospital both run structured mentorship programs in their Nevada locations designed for recent DVM graduates. Candidates who completed an internship or externship at a Nevada clinic or livestock operation have a clear advantage. Roles as a relief veterinarian or per-diem associate at emergency hospitals in Las Vegas or Reno also give new graduates hands-on caseload quickly while building toward a full-time offer.
Where can I find and apply to veterinarian jobs in Nevada?
You can find and apply to veterinarian jobs in Nevada on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers hiring across the state right now. Search the listings for the city, practice type, or specialty that fits your background, then apply directly to the roles that match.
