Which electronics companies sponsor F-1 STEM OPT visas in Florida?
Florida's defense and aerospace sector drives much of the electronics STEM OPT sponsorship activity. Companies like Lockheed Martin, Raytheon Technologies, L3Harris Technologies, and Jabil have filed Labor Condition Applications for electronics and engineering roles in the state. Consumer electronics manufacturers and semiconductor firms operating in the Miami and Tampa areas also appear in DOL disclosure data as active sponsors.
Which cities in Florida have the most electronics F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship jobs?
Orlando leads Florida for electronics STEM OPT sponsorship, anchored by its concentration of defense contractors and simulation technology firms near the Space Coast. Tampa follows closely, with a mix of defense electronics and manufacturing companies. Miami attracts electronics talent in consumer technology and networking hardware. The I-4 corridor connecting Orlando and Tampa has seen consistent LCA filing activity for hardware and embedded systems roles.
What types of electronics roles typically qualify for F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship?
Roles that qualify for STEM OPT must appear on the official STEM designated degree list and involve a directly related degree. In electronics, this commonly includes electrical engineer, hardware design engineer, embedded systems engineer, RF engineer, PCB layout engineer, and firmware developer positions. USCIS requires the role to be a genuine training opportunity tied to the student's degree field, and the employer must be enrolled in E-Verify.
How do I find electronics F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship jobs in Florida?
Migrate Mate filters electronics jobs in Florida specifically by STEM OPT eligibility, drawing on DOL Labor Condition Application filing data to surface employers with verified sponsorship history in the state. Searching by electronics sub-disciplines such as hardware engineering or embedded systems on Migrate Mate narrows results to Florida employers who have actively filed for roles matching those categories, reducing time spent on employers unlikely to sponsor.
Are there any Florida-specific considerations for F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship in electronics?
Florida's electronics hiring is heavily shaped by federal defense contracting, which means many employers require security clearance eligibility. F-1 STEM OPT holders are generally not eligible for U.S. security clearances, so roles at cleared defense contractors may be inaccessible even when the company sponsors other visa categories. Targeting commercial electronics firms, semiconductor suppliers, and consumer hardware manufacturers in Florida typically offers broader access for STEM OPT candidates.
