Many positions require seasonal availability and outdoor recreation expertise specific to Idaho's mountain environment.
Which visa types are most common for sports roles in Idaho?
H-1B visas are common for specialized coaching positions at universities and management roles at major resorts. J-1 visas dominate seasonal ski instruction and summer camp counselor positions. O-1 visas apply to elite athletes and renowned coaches. TN visas work for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying sports management roles, particularly given Idaho's proximity to Canada.

Seasonal positions at ski resorts often include housing benefits that offset wage differences. University positions follow state education salary scales. DOL prevailing wage determinations for sports occupations in Idaho reflect the state's rural nature and smaller market size compared to major metropolitan areas.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored sports jobs in Idaho?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
