SUMMARY
The Cloud Platform Engineering team is seeking a highly skilled, DevOps-oriented Infrastructure Engineer to join our dynamic organization in Boise, Idaho. This team is responsible for designing, building, and maintaining mission-critical operating environments across both public and private cloud platforms.
We play a pivotal role in enabling and empowering Simplot’s global application delivery and data engineering teams, ensuring they can deploy and operate solutions in the most appropriate and efficient environments. Our platforms are architected using modern infrastructure-as-code methodologies and are delivered through industry-leading tools and best practices.
As a Cloud Platform Engineer at Simplot, you will play a critical role in the design, implementation, and ongoing management of our cloud infrastructure, ensuring high levels of scalability, reliability, and security. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to deliver and support cloud-based solutions that align with business objectives and effectively address customer needs.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
As a Platform Engineer you will:
- Design, implement, and maintain cloud infrastructure across Azure, AWS, and globally distributed on-premises data centers.
- Architect, deploy, and manage a broad portfolio of Azure and AWS services, including networking, computing, storage, and database solutions.
- Apply infrastructure-as-code principles using tools such as Terraform, Ansible, PowerShell, and Python to ensure consistency, scalability, and repeatability.
- Develop and enhance automation frameworks to streamline provisioning, configuration, and operational management processes.
- Enforce cloud security best practices, including identity and access management, data protection, encryption, and regulatory compliance.
- Monitor system performance, proactively identify and resolve issues, and optimize resource utilization to maintain high availability and efficiency.
- Partner with software engineering teams to integrate cloud-native services and APIs into application architectures.
- Collaborate effectively within the team using version control and CI/CD pipelines through Git and Azure DevOps.
- Participate in L3 production support and incident response for our team’s globally deployed, 7x24 environments.
TYPICAL EDUCATION
Bachelor's Degree (B.A. or B.S.) from 4 year college or university
RELEVANT EXPERIENCE
- Demonstrated experience as a Cloud Platform Engineer or in a similar role, with hands-on expertise in designing, deploying, and managing cloud infrastructure.
- Practical experience with cloud implementations, including a strong working knowledge of core cloud services and architectural patterns.
- Experience with Microsoft Azure is considered a strong advantage.
- Solid understanding of DevOps principles, with hands-on experience utilizing tools such as Terraform, Ansible, and Kubernetes.
- Proven discipline in version control, build automation, testing, and release management practices.
- A strong commitment to continuous learning and ongoing professional development in emerging technologies.
- A demonstrated willingness to mentor and share knowledge to support team growth and development.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across cross-functional teams.
- A team-oriented mindset with a genuine passion for collaboration and supporting others.
- A strong desire to solve complex, large-scale challenges within a global environment.
- 3+ years working within complex, hybrid-cloud environments.
CERTIFICATIONS
- Azure Administrator Associate certification is a plus
- AWS Certified SysOps Administrator – Associate certification, not required
