Which sports companies in Illinois sponsor H-1B visas?
Chicago's professional sports franchises are among the most active H-1B sponsors in the Illinois sports industry. The Chicago Cubs, Chicago Bulls, Chicago Bears, Chicago Blackhawks, and Chicago White Sox have filed Labor Condition Applications for front-office roles. Beyond the franchises themselves, sports technology firms, analytics companies, and sports media organizations headquartered in the Chicago metropolitan area also appear in DOL disclosure data as H-1B sponsors.
Which cities in Illinois have the most sports H-1B sponsorship jobs?
Chicago accounts for the overwhelming majority of sports H-1B sponsorship jobs in Illinois. The city's concentration of professional sports franchises, sports marketing agencies, and sports technology companies makes it the primary hiring hub. Suburban markets within the greater Chicago metro, including Rosemont and Schaumburg, host additional sports-adjacent employers. Outside the Chicago metro, sports H-1B sponsorship opportunities in Illinois are limited.
What types of sports roles typically qualify for H-1B sponsorship in Illinois?
H-1B sponsorship in the Illinois sports industry most commonly applies to roles requiring at least a bachelor's degree in a specific field. Data analysts, sports scientists, software engineers, digital marketing managers, finance and accounting professionals, and legal counsel working for sports organizations regularly appear in H-1B filings. Roles like general coaching positions or athletic training often require specialized credentials but may not always meet the specialty occupation standard without additional documentation.
How do I find sports H-1B sponsorship jobs in Illinois?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for this search. You can filter by visa type (H-1B), industry (Sports and Recreation), and state (Illinois) to see active roles from employers with a documented history of sponsorship. This is more efficient than broad job searches because Migrate Mate surfaces employers who have filed Labor Condition Applications before, reducing time spent on outreach to companies unlikely to sponsor.
Are there any Illinois-specific considerations for H-1B sponsorship in the sports industry?
Illinois does not impose state-level visa sponsorship requirements beyond federal H-1B rules, but Chicago's competitive sports job market means qualified candidates often compete with a large local applicant pool. Illinois employers are subject to the same prevailing wage obligations as any H-1B sponsor. For roles with smaller sports organizations in Illinois, it is worth verifying whether the employer has prior H-1B filing history, since smaller entities may be unfamiliar with the sponsorship process.
What is the prevailing wage for H-1B sports jobs in Illinois?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
