Tips for Finding H-1B Sponsorship Jobs in Illinois
Target Chicago's established tech and consulting employers
Large consulting firms and enterprise technology companies headquartered in Chicago, such as Accenture, Deloitte, and Infosys, have consistent H-1B sponsorship histories. Prioritizing established sponsors reduces the risk of applying to employers unfamiliar with the process.
Look beyond downtown Chicago to suburban employment hubs
Deerfield, Downers Grove, and Schaumburg host major pharmaceutical, manufacturing, and technology employers that sponsor H-1B visas regularly. Expanding your search outside the Loop opens a broader set of sponsoring employers in Illinois.
Use DOL disclosure data to verify sponsorship history
The Department of Labor's OFLC disclosure data shows every certified Labor Condition Application by employer and state. Searching for Illinois employers confirms which companies have actively sponsored H-1B workers in recent fiscal years before you apply.
Search Illinois-specific H-1B roles on Migrate Mate
Migrate Mate filters job listings by visa type and location, so you can browse H-1B sponsorship roles in Illinois directly. This removes the guesswork of sorting through postings from employers who don't sponsor visas at all.
Align your application timing with Illinois employer hiring cycles
Many large Illinois employers, particularly in consulting and financial services, recruit heavily in late summer and fall to align new hires with the October 1 H-1B cap start date. Targeting this window improves your chances of a timely offer.
Network within Chicago's professional communities and industry associations
Chicago has active professional networks in healthcare IT, fintech, and engineering. Engaging with local chapters of organizations such as HIMSS or IEEE connects you directly with hiring managers at Illinois employers with established H-1B programs.

Which industries in Illinois sponsor the most H-1B visas?
Technology, consulting, healthcare, and financial services account for the largest share of H-1B visa sponsorship activity in Illinois. Chicago's concentration of management consulting firms, major hospital systems such as Northwestern Medicine and Rush University Medical Center, and financial institutions drives consistent H-1B petition volume across these sectors.
Which cities in Illinois have the most H-1B sponsorship jobs?
Chicago generates the overwhelming majority of H-1B sponsorship activity in Illinois, particularly in the Loop, River North, and Fulton Market neighborhoods. Suburban corridors in Deerfield, Downers Grove, Schaumburg, and Lisle also have meaningful employer density, especially in pharmaceutical, manufacturing, and enterprise technology companies.
What types of roles typically qualify for H-1B sponsorship in Illinois?
H-1B sponsorship in Illinois is most common in software engineering, data science, financial analysis, management consulting, healthcare IT, and life sciences research. These roles require at least a bachelor's degree in a specific field directly related to the position, meeting the specialty occupation standard USCIS applies to H-1B petitions.
How do I find H-1B sponsorship jobs in Illinois?
Migrate Mate lists H-1B sponsorship jobs filtered by state, so you can search Illinois-specific roles from employers already open to sponsoring the visa. Combining that with DOL LCA disclosure data to confirm an employer's sponsorship history gives you a focused, efficient approach to the Illinois job market.
What is the prevailing wage for H-1B jobs in Illinois?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
