Which healthcare companies sponsor H-1B visas in Illinois?
Illinois's largest health systems are among the most active H-1B visa sponsors in the state. Northwestern Medicine, University of Chicago Medicine, Rush University Medical Center, Advocate Health Care, and NorthShore University HealthSystem have all appeared in Department of Labor LCA disclosure data as recurring H-1B sponsors. Academic medical centers tend to sponsor more consistently than smaller private practices, given their institutional infrastructure for managing visa petitions.
Which cities in Illinois have the most healthcare H-1B sponsorship jobs?
Chicago accounts for the majority of healthcare H-1B sponsorship activity in Illinois, driven by its concentration of academic medical centers, research hospitals, and large integrated health systems. Evanston, Oak Park, and other Chicago suburbs also see meaningful sponsorship through affiliated hospital networks. Outside the metro area, Rockford and Peoria have regional hospital systems that periodically sponsor H-1B workers, particularly for physician and specialist shortages.
What types of healthcare roles typically qualify for H-1B sponsorship in Illinois?
Roles that qualify as specialty occupations under H-1B requirements generally require at least a bachelor's degree in a specific field as a standard entry requirement for the position. In healthcare, this commonly includes physicians, surgeons, pharmacists, physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech-language pathologists, medical scientists, and certain advanced practice roles. General nursing positions have historically faced more scrutiny for H-1B qualification, though roles requiring specialized advanced degrees may qualify.
How do I find healthcare H-1B sponsorship jobs in Illinois?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international job seekers and filters healthcare H-1B sponsorship jobs in Illinois by employer, role type, and location. Rather than sifting through general job postings where sponsorship status is unclear, Migrate Mate surfaces roles where employers have a documented history of H-1B sponsorship, saving you time and reducing the risk of pursuing positions that won't support your visa. You can filter directly by state and visa type to focus your search.
Are there any state-specific or industry-specific considerations for H-1B sponsorship in healthcare in Illinois?
Illinois does not impose state-level licensing restrictions that uniquely affect H-1B eligibility, but professional licensure is a practical requirement for most clinical roles. Physicians, pharmacists, and therapists must hold an active Illinois license before starting work, and employers typically coordinate timing between licensure and the H-1B petition. Academic medical centers affiliated with universities in Illinois may also have cap-exempt status, meaning they are not subject to the annual H-1B lottery.
What is the prevailing wage for H-1B healthcare jobs in Illinois?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
