Which healthcare companies sponsor H-1B visas in California?
Kaiser Permanente, Dignity Health, Sutter Health, Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, UCSF Health, and Stanford Health Care are among the California-based healthcare employers with consistent H-1B filing histories. University-affiliated medical centers and large academic hospitals tend to file H-1B petitions more regularly than smaller private practices, which often lack in-house immigration infrastructure.
Which cities in California have the most healthcare H-1B sponsorship jobs?
Los Angeles has the highest volume, driven by its dense concentration of hospital systems and medical centers. San Francisco and the broader Bay Area follow closely, anchored by UCSF, Stanford, and numerous biotech-adjacent clinical employers. San Diego is a strong market for clinical research and life sciences-linked healthcare roles, while Sacramento is a regional hub for state-affiliated and nonprofit health systems.
What types of healthcare roles typically qualify for H-1B sponsorship?
Roles that consistently meet the H-1B specialty occupation standard include physicians, surgeons, pharmacists, physical therapists, clinical researchers, medical scientists, health informatics analysts, and biomedical engineers. These positions require at minimum a bachelor's degree in a specific field directly related to the job duties. General nursing roles have historically faced more scrutiny under the specialty occupation standard, though registered nurse positions with advanced clinical requirements can qualify.
How do I find healthcare H-1B sponsorship jobs in California?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international job seekers and filters healthcare roles in California by H-1B sponsorship history, so you're not sorting through employers unlikely to sponsor. The platform surfaces positions at health systems, academic medical centers, and clinical research organizations across the state. Filtering by California and the healthcare category on Migrate Mate narrows results to employers with verified sponsorship activity.
Are there any California-specific considerations for healthcare H-1B workers?
California requires additional state licensing for most clinical roles regardless of visa status, so H-1B approval alone does not authorize practice. Physicians, pharmacists, and physical therapists must obtain a California state license from the relevant board before beginning work. California's Medical Board and Board of Pharmacy each have their own eligibility and examination requirements, which can affect your start date and should be factored into your employment timeline with your sponsoring employer.
What is the prevailing wage for H-1B healthcare jobs in California?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
