Which insurance companies sponsor H-1B visas in Illinois?
Several large carriers based in Illinois have consistent H-1B visa filing histories, including Allstate, Zurich North America, Kemper, and Transamerica. Consulting and technology firms serving the insurance sector, such as Accenture and Deloitte, also file H-1B petitions for insurance-focused roles in the state. Sponsorship patterns vary by role type and business need, so reviewing USCIS and DOL disclosure data gives the clearest picture of which employers file regularly.
Which cities in Illinois have the most insurance H-1B sponsorship jobs?
Chicago accounts for the large majority of insurance H-1B sponsorship activity in Illinois, given the concentration of carrier headquarters, reinsurance firms, and financial services companies in the metro area. Schaumburg and Northbrook also have notable insurance employer presences, housing regional offices for carriers like Zurich and Allstate. Outside the Chicagoland area, opportunities are significantly more limited.
What types of insurance roles typically qualify for H-1B sponsorship?
Roles that qualify as specialty occupations under H-1B rules typically require at minimum a bachelor's degree in a specific field. In insurance, this includes actuaries, data scientists, financial analysts, underwriters with quantitative backgrounds, software engineers building insurance platforms, and risk modeling specialists. General claims adjusting or customer service positions generally do not meet the specialty occupation threshold unless they require specific technical or advanced degrees.
How do I find insurance H-1B sponsorship jobs in Illinois?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for this search, letting you filter by visa type, industry, and state to surface insurance roles in Illinois where employers have H-1B sponsorship history. Because not every job posting explicitly states visa sponsorship availability, using a platform focused on sponsorship-verified listings saves significant time. Migrate Mate's Illinois insurance listings cover roles across Chicago and surrounding suburbs, spanning actuarial, underwriting, analytics, and technology functions.
Are there any Illinois-specific considerations for H-1B sponsorship in insurance?
Illinois does not impose additional state-level requirements on top of federal H-1B rules, but the competitive nature of Chicago's financial services market means sponsoring employers often have established immigration counsel and structured processes. Illinois employers must still comply with Department of Labor prevailing wage requirements and public access file obligations. The state's large concentration of insurance headquarters also means H-1B cap-exempt filings through affiliated nonprofits or universities are less common in this industry than in academic or research settings.
What is the prevailing wage for H-1B insurance jobs in Illinois?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
