Which transportation companies sponsor H-1B visas in Illinois?
Several large transportation and logistics employers in Illinois have H-1B sponsorship histories, including United Airlines, Echo Global Logistics, Coyote Logistics, and Union Pacific. Chicago's position as a major freight and aviation hub means many national carriers and third-party logistics providers maintain Illinois operations. Sponsorship patterns vary by company and role, so researching specific employer LCA filings through the DOL OFLC disclosure database can confirm recent activity.
Which cities in Illinois have the most transportation H-1B sponsorship jobs?
Chicago and its surrounding suburbs, including Itasca, Rosemont, and Oak Brook, account for the large majority of transportation H-1B sponsorship activity in Illinois. O'Hare International Airport drives significant aviation-related hiring, while the broader Chicago metro serves as one of the country's largest intermodal freight hubs. Smaller concentrations exist in Joliet, which has major warehouse and distribution operations along the I-80 corridor.
What types of transportation roles typically qualify for H-1B sponsorship?
H-1B sponsorship in transportation typically applies to roles classified as specialty occupations, meaning they require at least a bachelor's degree in a specific field. Common qualifying roles include supply chain analysts, logistics engineers, transportation planners, operations research analysts, and network optimization specialists. Roles that are primarily manual, operational, or do not have a defined degree requirement, such as drivers or dispatchers, generally do not meet the H-1B specialty occupation standard.
How do I find transportation H-1B sponsorship jobs in Illinois?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international job seekers looking for H-1B sponsorship roles, including transportation and logistics positions in Illinois. You can filter by visa type, industry, and state to see which Illinois employers are actively hiring for H-1B eligible roles. Focusing your search on companies with established sponsorship histories in the Chicago metro and major freight corridors gives you the most actionable starting point.
Are there any Illinois-specific considerations for H-1B sponsorship in transportation?
Illinois does not impose state-level visa requirements on top of federal H-1B rules, but the state's transportation sector is heavily regulated for certain roles, and employers must ensure the position qualifies as a specialty occupation under USCIS standards. Chicago's competitive hiring market means many transportation employers are experienced with sponsorship processes, though approval is never guaranteed and depends on the specific role, employer petition, and USCIS adjudication.
What is the prevailing wage for H-1B transportation jobs in Illinois?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
