Which transportation companies sponsor visas in Illinois?
Major visa sponsors include Union Pacific Railroad, UPS, FedEx Ground, Boeing, Caterpillar, and Abbott Logistics. Chicago-based freight companies like BNSF Railway and hub operations for major airlines at O'Hare also sponsor international talent. Many positions focus on logistics engineering, supply chain management, and transportation technology roles requiring specialized degrees.
How to find transportation visa sponsorship jobs in Illinois?
Use Migrate Mate to browse transportation positions filtered specifically for Illinois employers willing to sponsor visas. Focus on Chicago's logistics hub, Rockford's distribution centers, and Peoria's manufacturing corridor. Target roles in supply chain engineering, transportation planning, and logistics management where employers actively recruit international candidates with relevant technical backgrounds.
Which visa types are most common for transportation roles in Illinois?
H-1B visas dominate for logistics engineers, transportation planners, and supply chain analysts requiring bachelor's degrees. TN visas serve Canadian and Mexican professionals in engineering and management roles. Some companies use L-1 visas for international transfers, particularly in aviation and rail operations with global networks.
Which cities in Illinois have the most transportation sponsorship jobs?
Chicago leads with its position as a national transportation hub, hosting rail headquarters, O'Hare airport operations, and major logistics centers. Rockford offers distribution and warehousing opportunities. Peoria provides heavy equipment and machinery roles. Decatur and Springfield also feature agricultural logistics and rail operations with sponsorship potential.
What prevailing wage considerations apply to transportation jobs in Illinois?
Transportation roles in Chicago command higher prevailing wages due to cost of living and competition for talent. Engineering positions typically qualify for Level 2-3 wages. Downstate areas like Peoria and Rockford may offer lower prevailing wage requirements while still meeting H-1B thresholds, making sponsorship more accessible for entry-level positions.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored transportation jobs in Illinois?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
