Which sports companies sponsor F-1 OPT visas in Minnesota?
Professional franchises including the Minnesota Vikings, Minnesota Twins, Minnesota Timberwolves, Minnesota Wild, and Minnesota United FC have historically employed international talent in business and operations roles. The University of Minnesota athletics department and regional sports marketing agencies also hire OPT candidates. Sponsorship willingness varies by role and business unit, so confirming OPT acceptance during the application process is important.
Which cities in Minnesota have the most sports F-1 OPT sponsorship jobs?
Minneapolis and Saint Paul together account for the majority of sports F-1 OPT roles in Minnesota, given the concentration of professional teams, college athletic programs, and sports-adjacent agencies in the Twin Cities metro. Rochester and Duluth have smaller but active recreational and sports management markets. For roles with national sports media or analytics companies, remote positions based in Minnesota are increasingly common as well.
What types of sports roles typically qualify for F-1 OPT sponsorship?
Roles that align with a degree field are the most straightforward fit for F-1 OPT. In sports, that includes positions in sports analytics, sports business operations, marketing and partnerships, event management, communications, and sports science. Data-heavy roles tied to computer science or statistics degrees are particularly well-suited. Front-office and revenue-generating functions at professional teams tend to be more receptive to OPT candidates than coaching or on-field staff positions.

Filtering by the Sports and Recreation category within Minnesota gives you the most relevant results.
Are there state-specific or industry-specific considerations for F-1 OPT in Minnesota sports?
Minnesota's sports industry skews toward professional team operations, collegiate athletics, and outdoor recreation given the state's climate and culture. F-1 OPT authorization must directly relate to your degree field, so a role in sports marketing is appropriate for a marketing or communications graduate but not necessarily for someone with an engineering degree. Minnesota employers familiar with international hiring tend to be concentrated in the Twin Cities, where larger organizations have dedicated HR teams experienced with OPT documentation.
