INTRODUCTION
Under the supervision of the Executive Director, the Middle School ELD Self-Contained Teacher provides standards-based English language development instruction to multilingual learners in grades 5-8. The teacher designs and delivers culturally responsive lessons aligned to Minnesota Academic Standards and the WIDA English Language Development Standards Framework, monitors student progress through assessment data, and collaborates with staff and families to support academic achievement and language acquisition. The teacher fosters an inclusive learning environment, ensures equitable access to grade-level content, and supports students' growth in listening, speaking, reading, and writing while meeting all program and compliance requirements.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Instruction and Curriculum
- Provide standards-based English Language Development (ELD) instruction aligned to Minnesota Academic Standards and the WIDA English Language Development Standards Framework.
- Design and deliver lessons that integrate language development and grade-level academic content in reading, writing, speaking, listening, and viewing.
- Utilize WIDA Language Expectations, Key Language Uses, and Proficiency Level Descriptors to differentiate instruction for multilingual learners at varying levels of English proficiency.
- Develop students' academic language skills across content areas, including language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies.
- Implement culturally and linguistically responsive instructional practices that honor and leverage students' linguistic and cultural assets.
Student Assessment and Data Analysis
- Administer and interpret WIDA ACCESS assessment data, classroom-based assessments, and other language proficiency measures to monitor student growth.
- Use student performance data to develop instructional goals, monitor progress, and provide targeted interventions.
- Maintain accurate records of student language proficiency, academic progress, accommodations, and compliance requirements.
- Support students in meeting language acquisition goals and transitioning successfully into less restrictive instructional settings when appropriate.
Collaboration and Student Support
- Collaborate with general education teachers to ensure multilingual learners have equitable access to grade-level curriculum and instruction.
- Partner with special education staff, interventionists, counselors, and administrators to support the academic and social-emotional needs of multilingual learners.
- Participate in Student Support Team, Child Study, IEP, 504, and Multilingual Learner meetings as required.
- Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress, language development, and available educational supports.
Classroom Environment and Culture
- Establish and maintain a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment that promotes high expectations and student engagement.
- Foster students' confidence, self-advocacy, and academic independence while supporting language acquisition.
- Promote positive behavior, mutual respect, and a sense of belonging for all students.
Professional Responsibilities
- Participate in professional learning related to multilingual education, WIDA implementation, culturally responsive teaching, and Minnesota academic standards.
- Remain current on federal, state, and local requirements regarding English Learner identification, services, assessment, and compliance.
- Collaborate with colleagues to improve instructional practices and student outcomes for multilingual learners.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the administration in support of school goals and student achievement.

- Support student growth in all four language domains: Listening, Speaking, Reading, and Writing.
- Implement instructional practices aligned to WIDA's core principles of equity, integration of language and content, collaboration, and asset-based language development.

- Ensure multilingual learners have meaningful access to grade-level learning while receiving appropriate language supports and scaffolds.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
