Which healthcare companies sponsor F-1 STEM OPT visas in New York?
New York's largest academic medical centers and integrated health systems are among the most active sponsors, including NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital, Mount Sinai Health System, NYU Langone Health, Northwell Health, and Montefiore Medical Center. Large insurers and health technology firms headquartered in New York, such as EmblemHealth and Healthfirst, also hire STEM OPT workers into data, engineering, and analytics roles. Sponsorship patterns vary by role and department, so confirming directly with each employer's HR team is advisable.
Which cities in New York have the most healthcare F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship jobs?
New York City accounts for the largest share of healthcare STEM OPT roles in the state, driven by its concentration of world-class hospitals, research institutions, and health technology companies across Manhattan, Brooklyn, and the Bronx. Rochester is notable for the presence of the University of Rochester Medical Center and Strong Memorial Hospital. Buffalo hosts the Jacobs School of Medicine and KALEIDA Health, while Albany has a growing health informatics sector tied to state government health agencies.
How do I find healthcare F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship jobs in New York?
Migrate Mate is specifically built to surface employer verified sponsorship data for F-1 STEM OPT candidates, including healthcare roles in New York. You can filter by visa type, industry, and location to see which hospitals, health systems, and health tech companies have active STEM OPT hiring history. Focusing on employers with a documented track record of STEM OPT filings in healthcare reduces the time spent on outreach to organizations that are unlikely to sponsor.
What types of healthcare roles typically qualify for F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship in New York?
Roles that qualify for STEM OPT extensions must fall under a STEM-designated Classification of Instructional Programs code tied to the degree. In healthcare, positions commonly meeting this requirement include health informatics analysts, biomedical engineers, bioinformatics specialists, clinical data scientists, and healthcare software developers. Direct patient-care roles such as registered nurse or medical assistant typically do not carry STEM OPT eligibility. Candidates should verify their specific degree's CIP code with their Designated School Official before applying to a role.
Are there any New York-specific considerations for F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship in healthcare?
New York State has its own professional licensing requirements for certain healthcare occupations that operate independently of federal visa authorization. For example, roles requiring a New York medical license or pharmacy license must meet state board requirements regardless of STEM OPT work authorization status. Additionally, New York healthcare employers participating in federally funded programs are subject to E-Verify requirements under STEM OPT regulations, making employer compliance a practical factor when evaluating sponsorship readiness.
