Which media & entertainment companies sponsor F-1 STEM OPT visas in New York?
New York-based media and entertainment employers with documented LCA filing history in technology and data roles include NBCUniversal, Warner Bros. Discovery, Condé Nast, Spotify, Viacom, and The New York Times Company. Sponsorship patterns tend to concentrate in engineering, data science, and product management functions rather than on-camera or production roles. Checking OFLC disclosure data by employer and occupation code gives the clearest picture of which companies file for STEM-eligible positions.
Which cities in New York have the most media & entertainment F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship jobs?
New York City, specifically Manhattan and parts of Brooklyn, accounts for the overwhelming majority of media and entertainment F-1 STEM OPT-eligible roles in the state. The concentration of major network headquarters, streaming offices, digital publishing companies, and advertising technology firms in Midtown and the Hudson Yards area makes NYC the dominant hiring market. Other New York cities see very limited media industry hiring at the level that typically supports STEM OPT sponsorship.
How do I find media & entertainment F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship jobs in New York?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically for F-1 STEM OPT-eligible roles in media and entertainment across New York, surfacing employers with verified LCA filing history in STEM-designated occupations. Because not every media company advertises its visa sponsorship stance openly, searching by employer LCA filings rather than job descriptions alone gives a more accurate signal of which companies are genuinely prepared to support STEM OPT authorization.
What types of media & entertainment roles typically qualify for F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship?
Roles that qualify for STEM OPT extension must fall under a STEM-designated Standard Occupational Classification code. In media and entertainment, this commonly includes software engineers building streaming infrastructure, data analysts working on audience measurement, machine learning engineers for content recommendation systems, and cybersecurity specialists. Creative roles such as video editors, writers, and on-air talent generally do not qualify because they fall outside STEM SOC codes. Confirming the SOC code of a specific role through O*NET helps verify eligibility before applying.
Are there any New York-specific considerations for F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship in media & entertainment?
New York's media industry operates on project-based and contract hiring cycles that can complicate STEM OPT sponsorship, which requires a formal employer-employee relationship with an E-Verify enrolled company. Freelance and short-term contracts typically do not satisfy STEM OPT requirements. Additionally, New York City's competitive hiring environment means many media roles attract candidates who do not require sponsorship, so demonstrating a STEM-specific skill set relevant to data, engineering, or technology functions strengthens a candidate's position in the application process.
