Which agriculture companies sponsor H-2B visas in North Carolina?
North Carolina's H-2B visa agriculture sponsors include Christmas tree growers in Avery and Mitchell counties, sweet potato packing houses in Johnston and Nash counties, and nursery operations in Randolph County. Farm labor contractors who supply workers to tobacco, berry, and vegetable operations also file H-2B petitions regularly. You can verify employer filing history through DOL's OFLC disclosure data, which lists certified job orders by employer name and county.
Which cities in North Carolina have the most agriculture H-2B sponsorship jobs?
H-2B agriculture jobs in North Carolina concentrate heavily in the eastern coastal plain around Wilson, Faison, and Dunn, where sweet potato and tobacco operations are dense. The western mountain counties near Newland and Spruce Pine generate significant Christmas tree harvest demand each fall. Nursery and greenhouse roles cluster around Asheboro and Candor in the Piedmont. Rural counties, not major metros, account for nearly all H-2B agricultural hiring in the state.
How do I find agriculture H-2B sponsorship jobs in North Carolina?
Migrate Mate lists verified H-2B agriculture positions in North Carolina, letting you filter by county, crop type, and employer filing history drawn from DOL disclosure records. Because H-2B petitions are filed months before the season begins, checking Migrate Mate early in the year gives you the clearest picture of which North Carolina farm operations are actively recruiting. OFLC Wage Search can also confirm the prevailing wage and start date an employer certified.
What types of agriculture roles typically qualify for H-2B sponsorship in North Carolina?
North Carolina H-2B agriculture roles that appear most frequently in DOL filings include field crop workers, nursery laborers, Christmas tree harvesters, sweet potato graders and packers, tobacco primers, and irrigation equipment operators. These positions share a key H-2B requirement: the work must be temporary or seasonal, meaning the employer's need lasts no longer than ten months and recurs at predictable times each year. Permanent year-round farm management roles generally do not qualify.
Are there any state-specific considerations for H-2B agriculture sponsorship in North Carolina?
North Carolina's H-2B agriculture hiring is shaped by two overlapping seasons: a spring and summer cycle covering nursery, vegetable, and tobacco work, and a fall cycle driven by Christmas tree harvest in the Appalachian highlands. Employers must file separate H-2B petitions timed to each season's start date, and the statewide demand often exhausts the annual H-2B cap before late-season petitions are approved. Workers and employers should monitor cap status closely through USCIS when planning for fall positions.
What is the prevailing wage for H-2B agriculture jobs in North Carolina?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
