Which construction companies sponsor H-2B visas in North Carolina?
H-2B visa sponsorship in North Carolina's construction sector comes from a range of employers, including regional landscaping and site-preparation contractors, resort developers along the Outer Banks, and commercial building firms operating in the Charlotte and Raleigh-Durham metro areas. Companies that rely on seasonal project cycles, such as those building vacation rentals or seasonal recreational facilities, are among the most active H-2B filers. DOL OFLC disclosure data is publicly searchable to verify which specific employers have filed petitions.
Which cities in North Carolina have the most construction H-2B sponsorship jobs?
Charlotte and Raleigh generate the highest volume of construction activity statewide due to sustained commercial and residential development. The Outer Banks, including areas around Dare County, sees seasonal spikes tied to tourism infrastructure and vacation property construction. Asheville and the western mountain region also attract H-2B filings linked to resort and hospitality construction. Smaller coastal towns see periodic demand when hurricane recovery or seasonal build cycles create short-term labor needs.
What types of construction roles typically qualify for H-2B sponsorship?
H-2B construction roles are generally in the skilled and semi-skilled trades, including concrete formwork, carpentry, roofing, drywall installation, painting, and general laborer positions on commercial or residential job sites. The work must be temporary in nature, meaning tied to a specific project, season, or peak-load period rather than ongoing year-round operations. Specialty trade roles that are difficult to fill locally, particularly in coastal or mountain resort areas, appear most frequently in H-2B petitions.
How do I find construction H-2B sponsorship jobs in North Carolina?
Migrate Mate is a job board specifically built for international workers seeking visa-sponsored roles in the United States, including H-2B construction jobs in North Carolina. You can filter by state, visa type, and industry to surface employers who have a demonstrated history of H-2B sponsorship in construction. Because H-2B positions are time-sensitive and tied to petition filing windows, checking Migrate Mate regularly during the fall and winter months, when employers prepare spring-season petitions, improves your chances of finding open roles.
Are there any state-specific considerations for H-2B construction sponsorship in North Carolina?
North Carolina's mix of coastal, mountain, and urban markets creates distinct seasonal hiring patterns that directly affect H-2B eligibility. Employers must demonstrate that the work is temporary and that qualified U.S. workers are unavailable, which can be easier to establish in rural coastal or mountain areas with tighter local labor markets. State contractors must also comply with North Carolina's E-Verify requirement for public contracts, and H-2B workers are covered under this verification process. Employers typically work with immigration attorneys to manage the DOL and USCIS petition timelines.
What is the prevailing wage for H-2B construction jobs in North Carolina?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
