Which news and publishing companies in Ohio sponsor H-1B visas?
Ohio's largest H-1B visa sponsors in news and publishing include Gannett-affiliated titles, Advance Local's Cleveland.com, and Cincinnati Enquirer parent Gannett. Public broadcasting organizations such as ideastream Public Media and WOSU Public Media at Ohio State University have also filed Labor Condition Applications for specialized roles. Sponsorship is most common for roles in software engineering, data analytics, digital audience development, and newsroom technology rather than general reporting.
Which Ohio cities have the most news and publishing H-1B sponsorship jobs?
Columbus leads Ohio for news and publishing H-1B activity, driven by its concentration of digital media operations, university-affiliated public media, and technology-focused editorial teams. Cleveland follows closely, anchored by Advance Local's regional digital hub and public media organizations. Cincinnati's legacy newspaper infrastructure and growing digital operations make it the third-largest market for sponsored roles in the state.
What types of news and publishing roles typically qualify for H-1B sponsorship in Ohio?
H-1B sponsorship in Ohio's news and publishing sector is concentrated in positions that require at least a bachelor's degree in a directly related specialty field. Qualifying roles commonly include software engineers building editorial platforms, data journalists and analysts, UX designers for digital news products, audience analytics specialists, and advertising technology engineers. General staff reporter or copy editor positions rarely meet the specialty occupation threshold required by USCIS for H-1B classification.
How do I find news and publishing H-1B sponsorship jobs in Ohio?
Migrate Mate aggregates news and publishing positions in Ohio that come from employers with verified H-1B Labor Condition Application filing history, so you can filter specifically for companies that have sponsored roles in this industry and state. You can also cross-reference employer names against OFLC Wage Search to review past LCA certifications by occupation and location, which helps confirm whether a specific Ohio media company has actively sponsored H-1B workers in relevant roles.
Are there Ohio-specific considerations for H-1B sponsorship in the news and publishing industry?
Ohio's news and publishing market is heavily regionalized, meaning most H-1B sponsorship activity comes from a small number of large media groups with centralized HR and legal resources capable of managing the petition process. Smaller independent outlets and community news organizations rarely have the infrastructure to sponsor H-1B petitions. Candidates targeting Ohio should focus on employers with established corporate structures and a documented history of LCA filings, which indicates familiarity with the sponsorship process.
What is the prevailing wage for H-1B news & publishing jobs in Ohio?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
