Which chemicals & materials companies sponsor H-1B visas in Ohio?
Several large Ohio-based employers have established H-1B sponsorship histories in the chemicals and materials space. Sherwin-Williams, headquartered in Cleveland, files LCAs regularly for R&D and engineering roles. Dow operates facilities in the state, as do specialty chemicals firms like Lubrizol and Innospec. Smaller contract manufacturers and coating specialists across Akron and Columbus also sponsor H-1B workers, though frequency varies by company size and hiring cycle.
Which cities in Ohio have the most chemicals & materials H-1B sponsorship jobs?
Cleveland and Akron account for the largest share of chemicals and materials H-1B activity in Ohio. Cleveland anchors the coatings and specialty chemicals industry, with Sherwin-Williams' global headquarters driving significant sponsorship volume. Akron has deep roots in polymer and rubber manufacturing. Columbus and Cincinnati also generate sponsorship opportunities, particularly in industrial materials, plastics, and process engineering roles tied to manufacturing operations in those metro areas.
What types of chemicals & materials roles typically qualify for H-1B sponsorship in Ohio?
Roles that qualify as specialty occupations under H-1B rules generally require at least a bachelor's degree in a specific technical field. In chemicals and materials, this typically includes chemical engineers, materials scientists, polymer chemists, process engineers, R&D chemists, and quality assurance engineers. Positions in formulations, coatings development, and analytical chemistry also qualify when the employer can demonstrate the role requires specialized degree-level knowledge directly related to the work.
How do I find chemicals & materials H-1B sponsorship jobs in Ohio?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international job seekers looking for H-1B sponsorship, and you can filter directly by state and industry to surface chemicals and materials roles in Ohio. This saves significant time compared to manually reviewing job postings that rarely disclose sponsorship willingness upfront. Migrate Mate aggregates roles from employers with documented H-1B filing histories, so you can focus your applications on companies already familiar with the sponsorship process.
Are there any Ohio-specific considerations for H-1B sponsorship in chemicals & materials?
Ohio's chemicals and materials sector is heavily tied to manufacturing, which means many H-1B roles are plant- or lab-based rather than remote. Worksite location matters for H-1B purposes because the Labor Condition Application is filed for a specific work location, and prevailing wage requirements vary by county. If a role involves work at multiple Ohio sites, employers must account for each location in their LCA filings. Candidates should confirm which facility they'd be assigned to before the petition is filed.
What is the prevailing wage for H-1B chemicals & materials jobs in Ohio?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
