Which transportation companies in Ohio sponsor H-1B visas?
Ohio-based and regional transportation employers with H-1B sponsorship history include Norfolk Southern, CSX Transportation, DHL, and logistics operations tied to major manufacturers like Honda of America and Ford. Columbus-headquartered logistics firms and freight brokerages have also filed H-1B petitions for engineering and operations roles. Sponsorship patterns vary by employer size, role type, and annual hiring cycles, so researching individual companies through DOL disclosure data is the most reliable approach.
Which Ohio cities have the most transportation H-1B sponsorship jobs?
Columbus leads Ohio for transportation H-1B activity, driven by its position as a major freight and logistics hub at the intersection of I-70 and I-71. Cleveland supports rail, port, and supply chain roles connected to Great Lakes shipping. Toledo's proximity to Detroit auto manufacturing creates demand for logistics and supply chain professionals. Cincinnati rounds out the top markets, with air cargo operations at Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport attracting international talent.
What types of transportation roles typically qualify for H-1B sponsorship in Ohio?
H-1B sponsorship in transportation requires the role to qualify as a specialty occupation, meaning it must typically require a bachelor's degree or higher in a specific field. Roles that commonly meet this standard include transportation engineers, supply chain analysts, logistics operations managers, GIS transportation planners, and freight systems analysts. General driving, dispatching, or warehouse operations roles do not qualify, as they do not require a specific degree for entry.
How do I find transportation H-1B sponsorship jobs in Ohio?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international job seekers and filters listings by visa sponsorship type, industry, and state, making it straightforward to browse transportation H-1B jobs in Ohio without sorting through postings from employers who do not sponsor. You can filter by the Transportation and Logistics category and select Ohio to see active roles from employers with documented H-1B sponsorship history. This saves significant time compared to manually screening general job boards.
Are there any Ohio-specific considerations for H-1B sponsorship in transportation?
Ohio's transportation sector is closely tied to automotive manufacturing supply chains, which creates demand for logistics and engineering professionals but also means hiring cycles often follow auto production schedules. Ohio does not impose state-level visa requirements beyond federal H-1B rules, but employers in regulated transportation segments, such as rail or commercial freight, may require additional professional certifications alongside the H-1B petition. Prevailing wage determinations for Ohio metro areas like Columbus and Cleveland are set by DOL and will differ from national averages.
What is the prevailing wage for H-1B transportation jobs in Ohio?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
