Job Summary
As a Solution Engineer within the Distribution Asset & Work Management Product Line, you will help deliver resilient, intuitive, and data‑driven technology platforms that empower Distribution teams to plan, build, maintain, and restore the electric grid safely and efficiently. The systems supported by this team are operationally critical and must perform reliably every day — and without fail during storm events and other high‑impact situations.
You will be part of a cross‑functional product team responsible for designing, developing, configuring, and supporting software solutions that provide the right information, at the right time, in the right place for field and control‑room operations. This role contributes hands‑on expertise across the full solution lifecycle, from requirement interpretation and technical design through development, testing, deployment, and ongoing production support.
The Solution Engineer works closely with Product Owners, Business Analysts, Architects, Infrastructure teams, and fellow engineers to ensure solutions are robust, maintainable, and well‑aligned with enterprise architecture standards and operational realities. You will operate within Agile or Waterfall delivery frameworks as needed and are accountable for building and supporting solutions that uphold reliability, safety, and performance — including participation in 24x7 support and Storm Mode operations when business conditions require it.
What you’ll do:
- Design, develop, configure, and support software solutions that enable safe, reliable, and efficient grid operations across the Distribution Asset & Work Management ecosystem.
- Support Distribution Work and Asset Management platforms used across seven operating companies in eleven states, ensuring reliability and performance for thousands of internal users.
- Deliver secure, scalable, and maintainable solutions across a diverse technology stack, contributing to system stability and modernization efforts.
- Translate business needs and user stories into well‑designed technical solutions with an understanding of real‑world operational and field impacts.
- Collaborate closely with Product Owners, Business Analysts, Architects, Infrastructure teams, and fellow engineers within Agile or Waterfall delivery frameworks.
- Participate in testing, validation, deployment, and post‑release support to ensure solutions are production‑ready and resilient.
- Participate in a 24×7 Level 3 on‑call rotation and support Storm Mode and other critical operational events, providing expert troubleshooting and staying engaged through resolution.
- Maintain accurate technical documentation and configuration artifacts to support operational readiness and long‑term sustainability.
- Drive and advocate for continuous improvement, enhancing development processes, code quality, automation, and team efficiency.
- Grow your skills and support shared ownership, mentoring teammates as appropriate to ensure “2‑deep” coverage and team resilience.
What we’re looking for:
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or related technical field is required.
Experience:
- 7 years relevant work experience is required.
- An equivalent combination of education and related experience may be considered.

Which energy companies in Ohio sponsor TN visas?
Several large energy employers in Ohio have established histories of sponsoring work visas for qualified professionals. FirstEnergy and AEP Ohio are among the most active, given their scale of operations across the state. EDP Renewables and other renewable developers also hire TN-eligible engineers as Ohio expands its wind and solar capacity. Smaller regional utilities and engineering contractors may sponsor as well, though less consistently.
Which cities in Ohio have the most energy TN sponsorship jobs?
Columbus and Cleveland account for the largest share of energy TN sponsorship opportunities in Ohio. Columbus is home to AEP Ohio's headquarters and a growing clean energy sector. Cleveland serves as a regional hub for utilities and offshore wind development along Lake Erie. Akron has a presence in energy engineering and materials, while Toledo and Dayton offer additional opportunities tied to utility and industrial energy operations.
What types of energy roles typically qualify for TN sponsorship in Ohio?
TN visa eligibility in the energy sector generally applies to roles that require a specific bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant field. Electrical engineers, chemical engineers, mechanical engineers, petroleum engineers, and geologists commonly qualify. Environmental scientists and industrial engineers working on energy projects can also be eligible. Roles that require only general experience without a degree-specific requirement are less likely to meet the TN specialty occupation standard.
How do I find energy TN sponsorship jobs in Ohio?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for this search. You can filter by TN visa, the energy industry, and Ohio to see verified sponsorship-eligible job listings from employers actively hiring in the state. This saves significant time compared to manually reviewing company career pages. Migrate Mate also provides context on which employers have sponsored TN workers before, helping you prioritize applications toward companies with a demonstrated track record in Ohio's energy sector.
Are there state-specific considerations for TN sponsorship in Ohio's energy industry?
Ohio does not impose state-level visa requirements on top of federal TN rules, but a few industry-specific factors are worth knowing. Ohio's energy grid is regulated by the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio, and some utility roles may require state professional engineering licensure, which is separate from TN eligibility. Ohio is also expanding its renewable energy capacity under state portfolio standards, which has increased demand for engineers in solar and wind development, creating more TN-eligible openings than in previous years.
